[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Securing a tree line? (Page 1 of 3)

Our home borders a tree line. It's not very thick, maybe 15' at it's narrowest and 300' at it's thickest in regard to depth. Our part of the line is maybe 75-100 feet wide. But at night there is PLENTY of oppertunity for someone or even a group to conceal themselves. I could care less about during times of normalcy, but during times of unrest or other SHTF situations, it's definitely a weak spot for us.
Short of landmines/claymores, any ideas on cost-effective ways to secure that part of our property? Thanks -Emt1581 |

Obstacles are just to either funnel the enemy into a place where there are heavily armed dudes, or to slow the enemy so the heavily armed dudes can go to work. To be truly effective, obstacles have to be observed and covered by fire. I would keep a bunch of regular barbed wire and posts around to build some tanglefoot and double apron fence. That should channel people away from that avenue. If kept under observation, it should slow dismounted dudes down long enough to deal with them. It would take some time to construct, so not really good for sudden riots or whatnot. |
| There is a farmer in my area who has a field that is fenced with some kind of bush that resembles a rose bush. The dam things grown so thick and tall and have so many thorns that even the cattle wont go through them. I have even seen the deer run for one of the open areas to avoid having to go though them. I am not sure what they are called but someone here may know. |

| Plant BlackBerry bushes for starters. one little dried up sprig from home depot or an online store will turn into a 3-6 foot tall Bush, 4feet round depending on species... Covered with thorns. Added bonus is the birds, squirrels you'll get (early warning?) Be aware these will innundate your property, you'll be forever mowing/chopping/burning/removing them from brush and trees you do want. I've done it With a city lot that assholes liked climbing over the 6' back fence to steal shit in. Worked great. Think back to the Hedgerows during WW II. Directed tank movements, toss in the blackberry bushes you now have concertina wire. |
