About them? Sure, they're goofy clowns, but, one put down an active shooter. Because Armed Security Makes A FUCKING Difference |
You live around here or take the bus in? COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A gunman killed one person and wounded four others before being shot dead by a security guard at a busy Colorado Springs megachurch on Sunday, authorities said. Any more stupid questions? |
+1 isn't the event itself a perfect example of why the church needed an armed guard? ETA: another article said it was a personal weapon, and it was just a parishioner volunteering as a guard or something. |
|
I gotta say .. I never ever have stopped for their flashing yellow lot on a mall parking lot.. and if thier uniform doesnt have a Police Dept patch on there somewhere,,, I have ALWAYS seen them ass dirty wanna bes.. or washouts.. sorry thats the truth.. but I thank this man for doing his job regardsless of what I thaught about him . seems like this church was able to afford a better type of guard then the normal guards that are out there.. < there I go again.. man just saved a few lives and i cant get past the fact that he is a sec guard.. > you asked. |
Because at least twice since I became a member here at ARFCOM there have been mass shootings at a church. Once in TX where a police officer who felt very much like you had to watch his son die after being shot because he left his off duty piece in his car. We have all been reading about the second.... and about how it was stopped |
And who are you other than a internet commando? Has a security guard done more than you have to stop a mass murder. |
ok.. he asked a question.. I answered honestly.. SG have never been of high reguard with me.. not cause im better ,, but because ive seen the people that turn out to be SG.. I did mention that he saved lives and I and everyone shoud thank him.. if my answer hurt your feeling. deal with it.. I was answering the mans question.. even from the Original posters first post its common knowledge that no one really thins highly of them.. I simply voiced my thaughts.. never did I say I would do better .. again.. thank you mr SG.. you did an outstanding job.! Shrike9 if your feeling are hurt.. go play somewhere else. |
Thanks for answering. |
Ya never answered the question Do you think you are better than a armed or un armed security guard & if so, what makes you "better" and why do you look down at somebody doing a job. Or is it mall security has banned you from the mall for running and screaming |
That's the $100 dollar question. I'm sure it will come out in the media if we keep looking. |
|
geezzzz. This was a Woman that had been LEO in a former life, she volunteered to be part of the churches security force, normally she is the Pastor's body guard during the service, they placed her in the foyer due to the increased security yesterday. She is no longer LEO, a private citizen and is not paid staff at the church. It was her private owned CCW. |
|
It was a SHE, not a HE, that busted the perp. Good shot, Maam. Our church has armed security as well. They are off-duty cops. Last night, the one in the main foyer was sitting in a chair talking with some of the greeters about the church shooting in Colorado Springs. The first thing I thought was he should be standing up and on alert. A craft shooter may walk in with a concealed piece, look for armed security, and pick him/her/them off first. Chances are, it will happen somewhere else, right? I bet that dame at the church was very vigilant that day. Too bad she didn't get him before he killed those two girls. |
you seem to have a proplem with me.. so lets address this.. you say I never answered the question.. BOTH are addressed in my first response before you graced us with your presence .. since you didnt see them ill point them out.. ill edit this after i post so I can copy and paste my original post.. the one you missed completly.. cause your mangina started itching.. back in a few.. edit.. im back.. your question .. Ya never answered the question .. my answer . your SG have never been of high reguard with me.. not cause im better ,, but because ive seen the people that turn out to be SG.. as far as what I would have done diffrent .. at no time did I say I could of done better and even thank the man < now female > for doing what they did.. |
Why does the pastor normally have an armed bodyguard??? This really sounds strange as I've never been to a church of any kind where the pastor had a bodyguard, let alone a armed bodyguard. |
|
because hollywood always shows them in such a favorable light they do a job just like any other job some do better than others they are not like the typical ARFCOM"mando" that shoots .5" groups, drives nothing older than current model year and dates 3 supermodels simultaneously and handles routine drawdowns like a casual urination |
|
I think their are good security guards (professional) and bad security guards (wannabees) I also feel the same thing about law enforcement. I'm a cop and don't have a problem with armed security they have their job and I have had a few help me out in the past. I'm glad this lady was their makes you wonder what could have been if a armed security officer or non-sworn ccw'er (I'm trying not to stir up the hornets nest and use the word civilian) had been in the mall last week. I think incidents like these should be examples of why we need more CCW not more gun control since obviously the laws are only going to stop the honest people. Travis |
Have you ever been to a church with a 10,000 plus membership? We only have 1800 or so and we have security, which I am not a liberty to discuss. |
|
cluster, so you have seen the people that turn out to be security guards eh. Must be nice to see somebody and know what kind of a person everybody across the country is. Sure ya have dirtbag security guards, but when ya pay minimum wage and don't provide much in the way of training or require a serious background screening what do you expect anywhoo? Oh and did you know that security guards jobs are to observe and report, that is what the vast majority of em are trained to do. Oh and for the record, no I'm not a security guard, never have been one and doubt I ever will. |
I know 3 pastor/preachers right off the top of my head who ccw, while in the pulpit I suspect at least 1 more but have never asked him |
I was asked what we thaught of them.. I answered.. you didnt like that answer.. dont care man .. I know they are good and bad.. seems ive only seen the bad. as the good dont interact with me.. < or even the bad.. but they look bad anyway > again your feelings were hurt.. and it doesnt bother me at all. next time someone asked how we feel about something..,I will answer what I feel.. even if it hurts someones feelings.. or if its isnt the PC thing to say ..

I think it is pure comedy that some are getting orgasims over 1 single act is somehow is going to change opinions on security guards. She is a former LEO..not some schmuck wearing a blue uniform wanting to shake teens down in a mall waiting to grow up. Mall/ Shopping guards, etc..its nothing but a write off. |
Yes I have been to a church or two that had over 10K members, one of em (I assume has more than 10K members) was down in the Springs as a guest. I've been a member in a church with over 2K members and we did not have "security" and the pastor never had a "bodyguard" But hey, times change do they not? |
I didnt know that till reading it here.. funny how the MSM media.. made an " innocent " mistake there.. isnt it.. |
Not all armed guards are goofy. The majority take thier responsibility seriously. Thank God for that tough woman guard. Thank God for her. How many of you people who think armed guards are goofy would charge a gunman? How many of you would be unsuccessful? |
My guess is that you didn't know that the pastors of the churches that you visited had BG's. And if you didn't know it from the new reports here, you wouldn't know that the pastor at New Life did either. I do not believe it was an obvious thing. Our security is not either, but it is there none the less. |
you know.. I was gonna say a smart ass remark.. but then I saw your join date.. you are my elder.. and i will respect you.. < see noobs.. thats how its done..! > but really let it go man.. |
|
There are plenty of pastors who have bodyguards, as the trend of the "mega-church" has grown. With these 10,000 member churches come a lot of security problems, not the least of which is protecting a pastor who may speak out on controversial topics, e.g. abortion or homosexuality. I carry regularly in church, whether I'm serving as an usher or attending as a member, and in a post-9/11 world, I can't imagine why more who are able to, don't.
|
For the sake of arguement I'll assume you are correct and the Churches had security & I never realized/noticed or even really thought about it thus would have not been looking for them at all. Guess living where we do I'm "comfortable" with the small town mentality and as such it's a "big city" problem. Are you at liberty to share the kinds of general threats/problems a Church could face (other than this shooting) or that they have faced thus having the need for security? |
Interesting and I can see where that could cause problems.
Personally I don't blame you one bit, a Church full of people makes one heck of a target. |
Churches are big targets, lot of publicity surrounding them. The larger ones take in quite a large offering, a lot of bad guys might assume it would be an easy robbery. With the large numbers come a lot of people that might slip through the cracks and are in need of serious help. They would probably be identified in a smaller church setting. Smaller churches should be aware that they too will become targets. The ridicule of churches and Christianity is just the beginning, it will get violent in the future. |
