I was given a security clearance when I was active duty, is there any way to check and see if I still have it? Been inactive reserve since March 24. Thanks guys. |

Can speak to reservist but the day an enlisted person gets out of active duty they lose their security clearance. We just don't want civilians to wander into secure areas. They do however retain the ability to obtain a clearance which a potential employer will value. I was de-briefed from my TS/SCI the day I transfered into the fleet reserve. (and have never been happier!) |
What? No you don't. I'm working my current job simply because of what I was doing before I separated. Paul, yes, you lost SCI, and you were read out of the compartment. I lost SCI when I left the no-hair-club for men. OP - usually your security clearance lasts for 5 years; periodic re-ups happen within....2? years of expiry to get it back up and running without a full investigation. I'll ask my friends who used to be investigators. EDIT - edited above for tact. Confirmed with my friends who were full time background investigators - S/TS good for 5, PR within 2 to get it back up and running. You may also be able to find out by calling your old security manager. clearancejobs.com dice.com clearedconnections.com PPS - am looking for different job, can anyone recommend other good sites? |

You lose your clearance administratively when you no longer have need to know/access. Such as when you change jobs from a job that requires a clearance to one that doesn't. Leaving the service counts. HOWEVER, depending on what job you move into, and how long since you had an administrative downgrade, then the "hiring" organization can re-instate upon notification that your former clearance was valid . So theoretically, if your civilian job and your reserve billet does not require a clearance, you aren't supposed to have one. The IRR might keep it in force on the chance that if you get mobilied you might need a clearance ASAP. If you aren't regularly using it, you're not supposed to have one. |
