Curious how hard one of those is to put together?

With the proper gauges, fixtures, tools, etc. not terribly. Also a copy of Kuhnhausen's Shop Manual wouldn't hurt either.

Not that hard. If you can do an M1, you can do an M1A.

I love mine

Mine was a "Grade A" kit built on a 7.62 Firearms M14NM forged receiver (one of the good ones, thankfully!). It's a wonderful shooter, and I lucked into a superb stock with lots of tiger striping. I have a couple of lesser stocks around to use when I go to the range.

What's a CMP M14 parts kit going for these days, and what does it include ?

Nice stock.  I'm glad that your 7.62 worked out for you.  I have one from a group buy that is not in spec.; "some day" I'll have to send it in and see what kind of customer service I get.  My oprod track is not cut right.

The M14 kit I got from CMP was OK, but not great.

I thought CMP sold out of those a long time ago.

I tinker with mine, but for major work I'll farm it out to someone that really knows what they're doing.

I had one, but I decided to sell my grade A kit instead of a build.  Yours looks nice though.

You will need a VERY stout Vise, and   borrow a barrel wrench, or get  creative/Neanderthal with an 18 inch adjustable wrench.
Set of  chamber gauges, to include Go and No-Go would be good to have on hand, as well as a  GOOD  forged, GI Bolt (or two )
