| I don't really know all that much about him other that his acting career & that he was a Tennessee Senator. Could the Hive fill in the blanks for me? |

He's a real conservative and a former politician... ...that being said, he campaigned during the primaries on a platform of honesty, so nobody listened to him ![]() You can't go out there and tell folks: "This is what I believe, but THIS is what i can prolly accomplish as president, because Washington is so fucked up" It's just not good salesmanship; BUT, Honesty is what I'd WANT in a leader... I hope he runs again, and I hope he gets a good team behind him. Speed |

The best and brightest figure it out eventually, and realize, it's no place to play.
Sad state of our country, yet I don't blame the guy, losing proposition. ETA: Reagan played his acting career, sad as it was, it worked rather well. One can only hope, which is what 52% of Americans voted on the last round, right? |

he is more of a character actor . He showed promise in his early political career but during the Chinese influence of American politics investigation he showed his true colors. How so? Right in the middle of the investigation he just quit or so it seemed he said no one would cooperate. What did he expect ? I always thought the Republicans we on the take also and he caved to political pressure but that is only a guess. Hell he may have found out the Chinese donated to his own campaign. |

This pretty much sums up my feelings about Fred Thompson.

He let me down last time. I ain't putting my faith in him again. Didn't have the energy or drive to become what this country needed. His political positions were the best of the (R) candidates for the Presidential nomination but despite a ton of donations and grassroots support he didn't put in the work needed to progress in the race. Very disappointed in the man. |

I don't think it was laziness or old-man-itis, but more of a political strategy that completely backfired. I think he thought he should lay back and play up the outsider / common man / "aw shucks if the people want me to run, I guess I'll do it" act. Everyone was thinking that if you became the favorite too early, the newness would wear off and people wouldn't be as excited when it came time to actually vote. It's like that indoor bicycle racing they have in the Olympics. The guy in second place has an advantage because he can draft and then pass at the finish line, so you end up with both racers pedaling ridiculously slow until eventually one breaks and tries to sprint to the finish.
Thompson thought Romney was going to be the early front runner, and he was trying to set himself up as the anti- "slick ambitious politician." When the voters started to get nervous about Romney and re-thinking their pick, they would turn to Thompson. But he waited too long and was out of the race before he really started to seriously campaign. Giuliani made the same error. McCain was the eventual winner because he fell from being a front-runner to has-been so early in the race that he was able to somehow come back right at the perfect time. |

He started talking about reindexing Social Security and actually went into detail about how he would fix America's problems and people thought he was dull and didn't care. When he finally had some good one-liners at the South Carolina Debate people took notice, but figured it was too late for him. Bunch of morons out there..what else can I say? If you want to get elected you have to have cool slogans and sound bites not things like "white papers" and reasoned thought. I mean who gives a @$%@ if a President isn't a damn cheerleader or slicker than a used car salesman? Wouldn't it be nice just to have someone intelligent serve as President? Instead it's just high school politics where everything is a damn popularity contest among a population that is at least 33% retarded. |
