Good read. www.claremont.org/writings/040408warren.html People like that are despised today. It's a sad state of affairs. |
WTF ? I don't know of anyone who despise people like Sgt. York. Where did you get that idea ? |
|
As a gun collector, I HATE that movie. The use of an '03 by Cooper in the movie has done more to contribute to the godlike worship of the '03 and Springfield Arsenal than any other flick. York used a 1917!!! If you want to see a good WWI film, check out the A&E flick called "The Lost Batallion" starring Ricky Shroeder. |
As a fellow Tennessean who agrees with Tom Jefferson on this one, I'll have to shamefully add that, yes, there are people out there who are ashamed of Mr. York and dissapprove of his type. I had a high school english teacher with the same last name who referred to Seargant York as an ignorant hillbilly. That didn't go over too well. |
That is truly sad. |
"Isn't it a shame that those who live down in the valley always look down on those who live up on the hill." Tj |
Alvin York aside, it usually works the other way nowadays....West TN is looked down upon by the rest of the state.........hey, c'mon, Memphis ain't my fault! At least there's good BBQ there. |
Anyway that's a movie I have to rent next week, I appreciate the tip. I was not aware of York's life after WWII, in some ways it is as interesting as his heroics in war. There are still men who fight bravely, but how often does someone then have the humility to turn down the chance to become rich and famous afterwards? |
