So I ordered some replacement filters for my Etymotic ear buds.  They came in a little ziplock about 3x3 inches, maybe 3 mm thick.  And this is what Amazon packed them in, an 18x24x4 box.

You should file some leftist type complaint saying it wasted space and fossil fuels and you demand to see the manager.

Damn good thing they put all that bubble wrap in there tho!

If Amazon weren't a huge DNC donor, you would see them getting slammed continuously for their wasteful packaging practices.

I've seen very similar packaging done by Brownell's.

They did you a favor.

A small, item sized package will fall off or through the automated package sorters a hell of a lot easier than a box that size.

You really did want to receive them didn't you?

That's a surprise.  They have that shit down to a science.  Their boxes are coded and matched to their products....

Amazon is known for packing things in boxes 10x-100x times bigger than necessary.

I had a watch battery shipped that way. 1 single siver oxide watch battery, giant box.

I got a larger box for 12 stamps once

Some of thier picking and delivery is automated, the packer is a person that stands at the station and carts are delivered with the items.

It's pretty neat.

If amazon is shipping that way it's for a very specific reason, or group of reasons.

My guess is standard sized boxing makes it WAY easier to sort and ship than having multiple sized boxes.  I.E. which is costs more, a worker looking for the right size box, or a couple cents for a big box vs a small box.  Not take that cost over a couple hundred boxes per worker, per day for thousands of employees.

I've had the same thing happen. I really love how they throw in the packing pillows like they're going to actually do a fucking thing.

Flat rate packaging?  How much would Amazon have saved if a smaller carton had been used?

Exactly this. Three bolt catch plungers during the panic shippied in a 12x12x12 box. It did have a hand written apology though, said "sorry, we're about out of boxes".

I had something similar happen once. I ordered two sets of fuel injector O-rings (12 total, each is about 1/2" in diameter) from Rock Auto. First of all, Fel-Pro decided to package each little plastic bag of 6 O-rings into its own cardboard box, about 8" x 4" x .5", then Rock Auto packed those two boxes in a box that must have been 12" x 8" x 6", with a bunch of those plastic air bag things. Damn, I was expecting a bubble mailer.

I also recently received a box of stainless steel nuts and bolts with an official USPS 'fragile' sticker on the box .

my favorite one from them is buying toilet paper and having it shipped in a giant box with shitloads of bubble wrap around it.

I ordered 10 18650 batteries from Amazon a couple of weeks back. I got 5 10x12 boxes with 2 batteries per box. All from the same seller.

Winner Winner Overpack Dinner!
I ordered 2 oil filters for my bike, they came packed in a box like that.
Didn't cost me anything extra.

The .Mil has gone to packing small things like screws and bolts in overpacks like that.

Had that same size box for 6 freeze plugs. I looked inside to see if they forgot the rest of my order, guess what showed up tightly stuffed in a box-rest of my order.

I'd be a liar if I said I haven't been in that situation many times before.
