Ok this should be easy because I did it in about 20 seconds under Win2kPro.

But now under XPPro I cannot find anywhere where to input a custom resolution (specifically 1440x900).

Card: Nvidia Riva TNT2 Model 64.

Any ideas?

Right click anywhere on desktop.
Select properties from the menu that appears
Select the settings tab on the Display properties box
move the sliding bar to resolution desired.

Ok, I even tried to force set the resolution in the Registry.

Any other ideas?

How do I force the Display Panel to provide me the option of 1440x900?

Your video card may not be capable of that resolution

A quick google search shows that card dose not support that resolution.
you need an upgrade in the video card department. mmk

Well I got it working!

I had to download the drivers from 87 years ago to do it

Current revisions at 97 (I had to use 60something)

Woohoo!

Strange thing was that under win2k, the option to "Custom Resolutions and Refresh Rates" was right there!

and under XP I had to go backwards in drivers

Wide aspect... very common on newer laptops and some of the wide screen LCDs. Starting to see a lot of that resolution and 1680x1050.

Problem is those resolutions are not supported by a lot of older video cards so people are getting nice shiny new LCD monitors then finding out their current video card cannot drive the monitor at its native resolution.

You could also use PowerStrip.  It will add custom resolutions to the driver and you can change all the timings and whatnot (was useful for hooking up to my HDTV).
