I was watching a story on my local news station about how many teens are becomming felons and sexual predators by sending their boyfriends or girlfriends (who are their age)  naked pics of themselves.  I had no idea this was against the law.  I figured it was treated the same as any other sexual act, between two consensual adults, ok... Between an adult and a child- not ok, between a teen and another teen- ok... (by law at least).  or sending unwanted nude pics to someone- not ok... But it sounds like it doesn't matter the circumstances... naked pics sent via cellphone= felony... I think that is crazy.

Ask Kwame Kilpatrick about this.  He's the Pimp Mack Daddy of sexting.

ETA  Just don't use a work supplied device for your sexting.  Technically, you don't have an expectation of privacy.

I wouldn't  do it....but this is frickin America, you can get all the "bad stuff" online much easier, again I don't think it's right, but that's  my beliefs. Shouldn't they be more worried about banning guns?

We have had kids prosecuted for child porn for video taping themselves.  Somehow I don't think the penalty fits the crime.  Kids do stupid things.  It is the nature of kids.  We shouldn't brand them for the rest of their lives for it.

Bear in mind that by today's standards, Many here would have grandfathers or great grandfathers who would be considered pedophiles.

Actually it's Naked pics of underage kids that is the felony.  That is considered the creation and distribution of child pornography as the subject matter is of an underage person.

Ok, I see your point, however should it still be as serious of a crime if the person taking as well as the person receiving the picture is underage as well... Can it really still be called child porn.  I mean if an adult has any part of it, then thats a totally different story and that would make that person a pedophile. it is wrong and should be a punishable offense, but as children themselves, should they still be treated as harshly as adults who seek child porn?
