Has there ever been a case where  a person was actually shot first by a bad guy because they had a vest on?

ever?

Depending on the weather I have worn a vest for over 12 years and have never been singled out as a "Gun carrier"

even the times when I was working as LEO and had to pull my gun the "criminal" was always surprised that I had a gun on me while wearing a "shoot me first vest".

So I am curious any "true" stories out there?

I doubt there are instances of this happening... It's mostly just a joke amongst us gun nuts.

There is a guy at work who always wears a "shoot me first" vest. His license plate is related to a very well revered gun inventor. I would doubt he carries at the office, since it's both against company policy and there is a 30.06 sign on the front door, but outside of work...

Some people can pull them off.  Most people can't.

It's like fanny packs.  If you're old as fuck and you wear sweatpants in public, you can probably get away with it.  Everyone else; no.

Why men can't just wear a decent sportcoat or something, I'll never figure out.

Probably about as easy to find as someone being shot specifically because they were open carrying.

I only see guys wearing them at gun shows around these parts. I think that LEOs would be the only people who may notice someone wearing a vest like that. Of course if you add a pair of cargo pants and a LaRue Tactical hat, you might get some attention from Joe Average Criminal.....But I doubt it.

That being said, I wear one of these western style Kakadu concealed carry vests and it blends right in with the folks around here.....

I wore one for awhile back about '05-'06.  I didn't get shot... but I got tired of being asked where shit was when I was shopping in Walmart or the grocery store.

No you were made more often than you thought.

Unless you complete the ensemble with a banana republic safari hat with the side brim snapped up like Jesse Ventura wore in Predator.   Then you just look like an oddball goober.  Alternatively you can wear a greek fisherman's hat for the goober effect.

ETA- mic214,  that one might work well as long it's weather appropriate.  It's contemporary.

I wear a photographer's vest when I fly, since it allows me to carry a shitload of stuff in the pockets without it counting as a carry-on.

That's what I think , every time I see someone wearing one.....very handy . I have a problem with carrying way too much 'stuff', and a photographer's vest would work perfectly .

I wear a Filson wool vest in the winter almost every day. I'm exaggerating a bit, of course, but wearing such a vest in Seattle or many areas of rural Washington could almost be considered societal "camo" because it just makes you blend in amongst the rest of the working folks. Sometimes, such things depend on local norms.

I needed a couple pairs of pants last year and picked up two pairs of Wrangler cargo pants at WalMart .....cheap stuff. I'd never owned any ( aside from some mil-surp trousers I'd bought for hunting) and was pleasantly surprised how comfortable and handy they were.

The Wranglers are pretty flimsy , but I can see myself picking a few pairs of decently made ones , soon.

Any of those wool/micro-fleece vests (North Face, Patagonia, Columbia, etc.) blend in much better than a 5.11 vest.

I will wear a "shoot me first" vest from time to time during the summer, when it's too hard to conceal my glock.  Am I worried about being shot first?  No.  Why?  Because the people that know it's a "shoot me first" vest are pro gun like me.  The thugs/criminals that are out there have no clue what it is, nor does the general population.  So am I concerned that some pro gun person spots me in a vest?  No, because I've probably already figured out that person is carrying too.

Oh, and I have a fanny pack holster too (shocking, isn't it?)  in the 10 yrs I've used it I've only had 2 people know I was carrying.  Both were pro gun people and one chatted with me about it for a while.  Hell, I was searched once with it on and the gun wasn't found.

I had a few colors.. didn't matter... still got asked where the toaster ovens or granola bars were all the damn time.

I just switched to unbuttoned shirts over tucked in Ts.  It prints like hell, but I really don't care.  TN has no requirement to conceal, and 99.87% of people wouldn't notice if you were carrying a live ocelot around, let alone a pistol.

I own and occasionally use a vest. My 3 seasons answer is a Duluth Trading Co. "Firehose Presentation Jacket". 11 pockets, free swinging arms for tactical rolls and that firehose cloth is tough. I feel less "tactical" and more casual/professor wearing it. Machine washable.
