Offer extensions based on the condition of renunciation of citizenship.

They take the cash as a lump sum and then gtfo.

It'll be cheaper than paying this extension and the next half dozen extensions.

My employer is looking to fill quite a few skilled and unskilled positions, and we can't seem to find any "unemployed" people willing to take them. We even had a job fair and took out radio ads. Apparently nobody needs a job in my area...

Fuck no. Work, beg or starve.

They should have a declining amount each month they are on unemployment to encourage them to get a job or have them take lower paying jobs.  Start it out at the regular rate, then pay them 10 percent less each month after that.

I have a cousin who constantly bitched about not being able to find a job for 98 weeks, then miraculously found work in week 99. I suspect there are many more like him. We can't afford this.

No, but it will go through as just another scam to make the gop look bad, especially if it doesn't. The dems have had the gop by the shorthairs for a very long time and this issue will be another in a long list of campain issues later this year. The "sheep voters" will buy most of the dem bullshit.

It should be 3 month unemployment benefits if you never claimed in 3 years. 12 months if you decide to get restrained within 3 weeks of being laid off.

Shouldn't be able to collect more than 3 months in 3 years if you don't lift a finger to actually get a job or a new career. All government taxpayer founded be benefits should be temporary.

It's easy to say no if you're the one with the job.

So that's exactly how I voted.

If I lost my job and couldn't find work in my AO, I'd start looking elsewhere.  I'd be slaving away on some catcher-processor in the Bering Sea or freezing my fingers off on some North Dakota oil field before I went the welfare route.  The original unemployment deal was for what 26 weeks?  That's more than enough time to get your shit together, even if it requires bankruptcy and relocation.

I used 8 or 10 weeks of unemployment once shortly after 9/11.  It was as close to "funemployment" as I can imagine.  My daughter was 2.5yo, my wife got a part time job and I spent two months hanging out with my little girl.  It was great!

I can't imagine doing it for two years.

I know a guy (calls himself a conservative) who has been out of work, for the most part, for 3 years.  He was in here bitching about them not extending his bennies.  I told him there was a Tractor Supply store opening up nearby and they were hiring.  He just laughed.

I'm one of those retired military guys who just had my benefits cut (until i hit age 62) so the government can save around 7 billion dollars over the next 10 years......

Now the shit stain wants to spend roughly 6 billion over the next 3 months to continue paying out unemployment benefits?  They can all suck my mother fucking dick.
1/7/2014 2:08:10 PM EDT

It depends on how much they paid. If they got a premium plan, their benefits would last longer.

Oh you meant government unemployment insurance?

No, I don't support theft.

In the Choice (c) HELL No category.

And this is Obungo's fault.  He can't have it both ways - either the recession is over and the economy is great and he gets the credit, or unemployment is horrible and unemployment is rampant and he gets the blame.  In this case, his administration has been making up the unemployment numbers, and twisting who gets counted to the advantage of Dumbocrats.  They also have a sliding scale of what constitutes a crisis:  1Million people losing their individual health insurance is no big deal because it's "only a tiny percentage" yet 1M people crossing 99 weeks of unemployment handouts is a tragedy of Biblical proportions.  Which is it, Barry?  Republicans should be ramming this up his fourth point of contact sideways.

As one person I know said after he recently started his new job "I would have gone back to work sooner but they kept extending my unemployment benefits".

It's simple math. If you are paying someone $400 per week for being unemployed then it only makes sense for them to take a job making more than $400. In fact it has to be their unemployment amount plus whatever costs would come with being employed (travel costs, clothing, equipment, day care, ect). As well as how much money it will take to convince them they would rather get a higher paycheck but spend their days doing stuff they wouldn't otherwise do instead of doing whatever they want all day.

And if they are working off the books. Forget about it.

It is a COLA reduction of 1% a year until age 62, at which time the government will somehow magically have the money to pay back the missing COLA. A raw deal all the way around. But I'm sure there are those on this forum who think this is a fantastic idea to save the government some money in order to reduce the deficit.

no. unemployment is meant to be a short-term hold-over for people that get laid off due to things beyond their control, not a lifestyle.
