I'm going to be painting my house soon, so I was looking over my siding.  I have Hardi-plank siding that is about 10 years old.  Above my garage (where my house gets constant sun) I noticed that two of the planks are kinda bowed out from the wall so ther is about a 1/2 inch gap at the bottom edge of the plank.  You only notice this when you are looking straight up.  All the other pieces of siding are laying flat and are tight to the plank below it.

I am concerned abut leaking.  What should I do with this?  Can I caulk the gap and leave it alone?

I would only worry if there were gaps between the ends of the planks. That would allow water to run underneath the lower planks. You could caulk the ends if there's a gap. I wouldn't caulk under the plank. Are these the 1' X 2' type or the long ones? You may also be covered under warranty. Siding company's are pretty good with stuff like that.

You can face nail Hardiplank, infact some applications require facenailing such as siding SIPs.  I'd pop a few nails into the offending plank about 1" from the bottom to see if you can tighten it up.  It would be best to hit a stud, if you can find one.  Use stainless ring shank siding nails when face nailing.  A little putty and paint and you will never see it.

I agree with slanted.  Just make sure you are high enough from the bottom to miss the board below.  nailing 2 layers together is a nono
