I'm looking for a barrel to send to Adco for some work. I want a 14.5 barrel.

If I own other complete AR's and have an extra built lower lying around, can I buy a stripped 14.5" barrel and have it in the house before I ship it out to Adco?

You should head to the NFA forum, but unless you have an SBR lower or a pistol lower, you shouldn't keep a 14.5" barrel.

If you do NOT have a registered SBR or MG you cannot own a short barrel if you own a regular AR-15, ATF will call it constructive possession.

The problem is when you have a complete lower laying around.

For instance, if you have 2 complete rifles, and a 11" barrel in the safe, no problem.

If you have 1 complete rifle, 1 lower and the 11" barrel, now it's constructive possession.  Now lets even be more confusing and say that extra lower is a pistol lower on your 4473.  Now no problem again.

It's just not something worth screwing with in my opinion.  I didn't buy anything to complete my SBR until my stamp was in hand.

Incorrect.

If you have a short barrel and an AR rifle of any type - complete or not - hide your dogs.

That's not what I was told by the NFA examiner over the phone, but I know what that's worth.  Like I said, it's not worth screwing with the ATF and their idea of gray areas.  But, if what you say is true, then someone cannot own a AR pistol and an AR rifle at the same time.  Unless having a legal lower for the short barrel, whether it's pistol or SBR is the difference.

Man, can you imagine the Founding Fathers having a conversation like this?  Pretty sad the things we have to obey, even worse for people like me in CA.

The way I understand it, if you have at least one pistol lower or SBR lower, you can own whatever you want. If you don't have a pistol lower or SBR lower, you can't.

At any rate, that seems to be the best way to play it safe.

This really is all covered in the NFA forum.

Think of it this way: do I possess parts that can only be built into illegal configurations? CONSTRUCTIVE INTENT

Well shit, I don't own a pistol or SBR lower so I guess I will just have to have a barrel shipped to Adco or just buy a 16" barrel.

Thanks guys.

I'm tired as hell. I was just browsing the NFA forum and thought I had posted it in there
