Where can you buy silver (the actual metal itself and not stock certificates)?

How much markup should there be over the spot price?

I looked into silver US Eagles and they were over 100% over the spot price.  Ouch.

I've got a 15oz silver ingot that I'll sell for $100.

Only catch is that it hasn't been assayed to determine the value.  All signs point to it being pure silver though.

Is it my imagination, or is the price of bullion/bullion coins running much more above spot than it used to?

I believe it is, for the smaller quantities, junk silver coins, Eagles, etc..  If you buy 1,000 oz. bars you pay only a little over spot.

No you are correct, before you could go to any major seller and buy silver at 75-85 cents over spot.. Now its 1.50-3.50 over spot per ounce!! CRAZYYYYYY!!!

So you're saying they're PRICE GOUGING?!

Seriously, the spot price is lower than last time I bought, yet the bullion/coins cost seems the same.

Possibly try and contact the Hunt brothers and see if they have some extra they'd like to sell?

Not sure when you last bought but the major players "over spot" price it a lot more then it was when value of silver was 16+...Best to deal locally if you can!!

EDIT- Paying 3+ over spot is crazy if you ask me, 1$ over spot should be the max you would want to go if your buying 1 oz rounds and bars....

They have some inventory left.

The problem right now, is that Hoarding of physical Silver began over a year ago because of the Gold Silver Ratio going uncorrected for so long, and the signs of the economy going into the tank.

Those that have it, are hanging onto it, and the "Spot" price is a reflection of the traded value of "Paper silver", not physical Silver.

Paper Silver is oversold by a good margin, and there is not enough physical to cover what has been sold.

So yep...spot plus 2-4 bucks for rounds, flats, and junk is what is going on IF you can find it.

Several large traders will sell at spot right now, but will tell you delivery wont be untill mid to late spring.

That's why Junk coins are the hot mover right now.

Good luck on finding anything in volume.

Oh.. and the Eagles?
Discontinued for 2008 as of several weeks ago and prices are getting jacked by the numismatists.

Best of luck!

Not to hijack this thread, but is it better to buy silver bars or coins?

I would like to hear advice from experienced buyers as well.  It seems to me I would like some easy exchangeable "money" that has intrinsic value rather than paper.

So what do other think the best option is?  Coins?  Bars?

Is silver at the bottom?  The market seems to still be heading downward.

Many prefer coins because the stack, and can be put into a 1lb roll.

Silver bullion is hard to come by these days, those who have it aint selling it and those who are selling are getting up to double value

At the local shop here, they got in Twelve 10 ounce bars and they all sold for $160.00 each within an hour

American Eagles have always commanded a premium, and they are probably one of the finest looking coins out there

If they don't have what you're looking for, try in a few days.

Inventory comes and goes.

One ounce gold is behaving in the same way.  Fasinating.

Silver is getting more scarce.  The markups are getting larger.

To take the plunge or not take the plunge?
