Does anyone have experience with simunitions? I've heard a little about them, and they seem like a practical training tool. I was thinking about taking their 4 day course this summer in CT. Has anyone here taken it? If so, whatever you can tell me would be appreciated.

I've used them in training. They are an excellent training tool as long as the scenarios don't degrade into unrealistic shoot'em ups. They sting and can break the skin at close ranges.

Simuntions allows you to utilize your own weapon for training, a conversion kit is installed for the simunition. The course is well worth the time and effort, it gives you insight to what an armed encounter can and will develop into. Since you can use your own weapon you can get a realistic feel and reaction as opposed to "playing" paintball. By the way, simunitions hurt more than paintballs.

If you can get the course, go for it.  Its real good info, especially the armorer's portion.

Our security force at work has used them on several occasions.  They bring an instructor onsite.  In addition, they produce another round designed for target shooting in places you can't use a full powered cartridge.

I was lucky enough to get to use simunitions on two occasions in the police academy - building searches and traffic stops.  Very realistic.  Your gun, same trigger pull, goes bang and cyles.

For about a week I sported the 5 welts on my back that resulted from prematurely "clearing" a room in the building search.  Ouch!

Take the course!

Simmuntions is the company name. They make several types of specialty ammo.

FX marking cartidges are what you are refering to.

The "conversion units" are supposedly sensitve to dirt. Glock sells "blue guns" set up for the FX cartridges, they are supposed to be much better performers than the conversion units.

Get, and use the recomended protective gear.

Simmunitions will only sell their FX gear, and ammo to people who have taken the course, or organizations that have FX trained people in them.

Having said that, FX rocks. It can really be an eye opener when you are shooting at another person, who is shooting at you. Or it can really reinforce things like the 21' rule, and reactionary gaps.
