Who can recommend a safe for a single handgun that has a Simplex lock? I figure many of you have real world experience with them and could give advice. FWIW, I have a Gunvault and hate it, the battery dies after 1 or 1.5 months on average, but the last time I went to open it 3 weeks after changing the batteries (8 of them!) it was dead and I had to go dig for the key to get my pistol out. That's unreliable and worries me. |

www.missouricarry.com/mostore/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=4 Highly recommended. TSA approved. Got one for each car with the same key. I got the smaller one, but if you want to carry anything full size get the larger one. I call the whole system "the field kit" (Bourne Identity) with a handgun, spare mag, knife and flashlight. |
This safe will be bolted down in my bedroom and it will store my "Go to gun". |

I've got one from Winchester. I bought it at a local fun shop 5 or 6 years ago. It works fine. It was $100 back then. I'm surprised your mini-vault is going through batteries that fast. Mine takes much longer. Of course, I don't use it everyday. Make sure you are using Duracells. That is what they recommend. |
They said they can't do anything under warranty because I didn't send in the warranty card hinking.gif |
Even if the LED was stuck on, it should last for more than 3 weeks when powered by 8 quality AA batteries. |
|
This is what I have. I trust the simplex mechanism, no batteries, SOLID safe. Fort Knox |
However, the price is thru the roof, $179 plus shipping is mighty high. I'm not saying it's not worth it, just outta my league. Also, if possible, I would rather have the "Gunvault type door" that opens from the front. BTW, thanks for all the help and insight guys! |
Here's a couple more choices: Light weight -- easy to transport http://www.vlineind.com/html/desk_mate.html Heavier Duty - not much more money but well worth it http://www.handgunsafe.com/safes.htm I understand that in general, warranty cards should not be required. I believe all you should need is to provide is the sales receipt. I'm surprised this is still being used an an excuse to void warranties. Google the reviews and product tests. Here's one. http://www.recguns.com/Sources/XIIIB4.html $179 is not that high if you want something strong and reliable. - Phil_A |

I like the smallest safe here: www.handgunsafe.com/safes.htm. Thanks for the link. Now what do I do with my Gunvault? |
|
Anyone know if I could find these safes cheaper from a vendor? Or are they only available from the manufacturer? www.handgunsafe.com/safes.htm |

A real man keeps his gun duct taped to his forearm, READY FOR INSTANT USE. Actually, that might still be TOO SLOW. Maybe the best thing to do is just constantly fire shot around your house. Then if an attacker barges in he will run into a bullet that's ALREADY IN FLIGHT. |
|
And that, my dear wife, is why I need to buy more ammo. I need to always have a bullet in flight. |

I've had The HandGun Safe for years now and I love it. I will buy a second one sometime. |
