Looking for a single speed bike to ride around town and need suggestions. Looking for a quality bike with quality components that will last a good while. Total riding AO would be maybe 20 square blocks.

This thread will now be a place for suggestions and pictures.

And Go!

Don't get a Draft SE.  It's tempting, as it's the go-to for cheap single speeds, but it sucks.  And don't get some gay ass vintage "I enjoy sucking cocks both on AND off the clock" cruiser bike, either.

Get this

or something comparable from another quality manufacturer.

Or this

I like this one a lot, but it's not cheap.

Probably this, however if a single was in my future I would at least look at Surly. Great value.

excuse my ignorance but what is the advantage to a single speed? What do you do when a hill comes up?

Strap your balls on and pull that fucker.

The bad part is when you get to the downhill side and redline your leg-rpms.  Which is why I sold my single speed.

The advantage is simplicity and ease of maintenance.

Hills? I live at the beach, the closest thing to a hill here is the curb.

This is exactly why I want a single speed. I have a Trek Alpha that I've had for years and it just isn't worth maintaining anymore since I never ride it far enough to need to switch gears. I'm not interested in road racing or anything like that. I'm interested in something to get to the bar, docks, grocery store, bank, sushi bar etc etc.
