OK, yeah I know, kill it with fire, dust off and nuke it from orbit and so on.  But this thing has moved in somewhere...  I heard squeeking and rustling from the attic earlier.  Seems to be some activity under the deck...  The smell in my house is a color, a weight, an unwanted roommate, a lurking funky presence.  GF stuck with it today but did NOT spend the night...  looking for practical advice and if pictures result, amusing and otherwise I will post.  But I got to lose this critter.  Anyone want to make a million bucks?  Start a 24/7 skunk removal business...  Believe it or not I was on the phone tonight (Saturday, 11PM).  Not interested in humane solutions but don't want to kill neighbors cats either.

Buy several boxes of mothballs, pour them in a bunch of old socks, tie a knot in the end of each sock,  and toss them in the attic.

Problem solved.

Just trap it , buy a cage trap, cover most of it with a blanket and bait it.

pretty easy to catch one. Approach the cage from the blanket side and cover the whole cage with it. He won't spray and bring him some where and release him or drown him if that's what you want to do.

What you might be hearing in the attic is mice.

.22 solved

OK, I'll try the mothballs...

.22 not an option here.  First is the urban issue.  Second is the attic is one of those where you have to remove a trapdoor with some messing around...  End up face to face with it.  Or worse...

Jeez, it STINKS in here.  It's like a loud noise or something.  Alcohol is helping.

Oh, and I heard a live trap story from a friend.  Pretty harrowing.  He said when they release that close to you it's like being hit with something, not at all like the smell they leave behind...

They won't spray if there is a blanket over the cage. You don't try to pick up the cage
without one.

got it.  I'll give it a try.  Not looking forward to it...  Anyway you slice it, there is going to be one pissed off skunk in a cage.  BTW, I heard from the same friend that peanut butter is the bait of choice?  Sounds good but not trying for a squirrel.

Grenades.....

I had one try to move in under my house.  There was a hole I found where he was able to get in, and sealed it.  Do a careful inspection along the exterior foundation of your house - that's the best way - and make sure it is not inside when you seal it up.

That's an excellent bait for it, let me be clear though don't do this in your attic.
Go under the deck

Once you catch it you'll be surprised how docile it will act in the cage under the blanket.

I released quite a few from box traps w/o getting sprayed.
BUT,like others have said, taking a direct hit is a WHOLE DIFFERENT THING.esp if it's in the face!

I usually dispatch them with a .22 CB cap or short behind the shoulder.Less likely to spray.A head shot WILL make them sparay.

Lots of guys using a small gauge syringe full of acetone on a long pole.EASE it into the lung.
