Best thrash metal band ever.  South of Heaven was probably their finest work.  The "metal" of today pales in comparison.

I have the first 5 albums.

Good stuff, and I agree South of Heaven was their best album.
Check out Soulfly also for some Tom Araya vocals.

Some other facts, Kerry King did the guitar solo in "No sleep 'till Brooklyn" by the Beastie Boys.

They were both produced by Rick Rubin.

REIGN IN BLOOD

Is their best IMO, It is also one of the most essential metal albums of all time.
Their work before reaign in blood was also excellent.
I thought they went down hill from south of heaven onward, some more and some less.
I do not listen to anything after divine intervention.

I've been a fan of Slayer since I first saw them live, in 1984.
It was awesome. This was my first concert.  It was at the Country Club.

Slayer is the best.  I have seen Slayer 5 times...starting in about 1984.  That Hell Awaits video brings back some memories.  Anyone remember Kerry Kings "nails?"

That gauntlet like thing with big ass nails in it instead of spikes?

They didnt even stay up straight from the weight..

I liked their guitars better back in the day too, the LP and the early B.C Rich guitars

Today's slayer pales in comparison...
Their music got kinda lame after I started learning how to play their stuff, don't know just isn't exciting anymore.

They might have been an influential band but I see them pretty much as mediocre, being influential just means you figured out something before a lot of others doesn't mean you were actually that good at it.

I don't think they produced anything worth buying since 1986.
