Anyone else ever had this happen to them? Officially the most scared I've ever been....worse than IDF or being shot at.

I was asleep (staying in an apartment contracted by a long stay hotel as I'm attending a course at a different base) and I woke very quickly. I felt an overpowering sense of danger and fear instantly. There was flashing light (not literally, it felt like my brain was adding light to what I was seeing) and a concussion noise about every second that went with the flashes.

I looked at my glock on the nightstand, tried to reach for it and couldn't fucking move. I had to lay there, frozen, with this very deep down fear of danger washing over me. It lasted about 20 second and then I started getting my movement back. When I could feel my limbs again it felt like they were all asleep. I cleared the apartment and went back to sleep after that. Anyone else had this bullshit happen?

TL;DR –– woke up, couldn't move, WTF, happened to you?

It's happened to me a couple times. It's scary as anything I ever experienced. Of course, at the time I didn't know what it was.

Yep. When you've had enough episodes you learn to ignore the fear and go for the ride

A nightmare which your brain erased as soon as you woke up?

I presume you are too young for a TIA.

I had it happen out hunting with my son.  There was a brown bear in the area that we saw right at dusk that wouldn't leave us alone.  In the middle of the night I woke up to noises of brush crashing.  The only bad part was that I couldn't move for a few seconds that seemed like forever.

Really wild experience.  I slept great the next night after my son shot the bear with a 25 yard one stop shot.

It never happened to me when woke up by gunfire, mortars, or RPGs but it did with the bear.

Yep, I get it from time to time. Freaked me the fuck out for a while until I found out what it is. Haven't had an episode in a while, but typically once I talk myself calm I'll just keep trying to rock myself until I'm good.

But yeah, the first few times you'll be pretty damn freaked out.

That happens to me pretty frequently. I "hear a bump" and I know that I need to wake up and check it out, but I am frozen in place. Sometimes my wife will wake me up and tell me that I am making noises, which is me trying to rage myself awake.

Just concentrate moving one finger and when you do your whole body will
release. Been doing that for years.

Yeah.

But every now and again you get one where you still get some fear.

Nothing even close to the first time it happens though.

Nightmare mixed with sleep walking mixed with actually being awake.

Sleep paralysis is horrifying the first time you experience it, particularly if you are not familiar with the phenomenon (which most people aren't). It is EASY to see why folks would think it is a supernatural experience. The feeling of dread and fear is overwhelming enough, but then there is that "sensed presence," the feeling that something is lurking just out of sight, coming to get you.

It usually happened to me when I was sleeping on my back. Needless to say, I don't sleep on my back anymore and haven't had an episode in a number of years.

Our bodies are 'supposed' to paralyze us during sleep, otherwise we would have a tendancy to 'act out' our dreams. In reality, some have it less than they should.

For me, I don't have the 'degree' of paralysis I should during REM, and I used to, as a kid and when I was younger, act out portions of my dream. One time I watched a guy stealing my motorcyle from the driveway... I was standing there at the window, looking through the blinds, seeing him steal it. However... I didn't HAVE a motorcycle nor was there anyone there. I was simply acting out my part of a dream.

The paralysis is a basic disconnect mechanism between our brains and our bodies. Sometimes there is a disconnect of the disconnect and you will be lucid, but your body will not be responding appropriately. At other times, it has been shown that this 'sensation' is actually part of a dream, and that the person had not truly 'awakened' at all.

Wiki has a basic explanation which, while a little farcical, is not too far off the mark.

It is freaky. I can usually end it by either telling myself I'm dreaming and to go back to sleep, or just move a foot or a hand and it ends. I always thought it was just a dream that I was awake but I was really still asleep.

I had a shotgun beside me in bed, I woke up and could not move. There was this shadow being hovering above me. I was scared for a few seconds but realized what was happening.

It was awesome!  That is the only time is has happened to me.

I do it on purpose. There is a method to inducing it; sleep paralysis is a gateway to out of body ex.periences and astral projection. Embrace it OP. People work for years to achieve that experience. Pick up Astral Dynamics by Robert Bruce. The black hag is a bitch, but beautiful things await once you have her conquered.

Used to get it at least three times a week. I would fall asleep in front of the TV and could hear and see what was going on but not make any sense of it, like it was a different language. I got diagnosed with sleep apnea and got on CPAP. It has not happened again since being on CPAP. Once in a while while if I sleep without my mask, I get sleep paralysis.

I had it a lot in high school and in my 20's.
Nothing like being paralyzed while the sensation of an evil presence is in your room as a weird buzzing sound is playing in your head.

It's common, it sucks, but as long as it's not happening to oneself, it's fascinating.

The evil presence is what's been known for centuries as the black  hag. She is the guardian to the astral gate.  Make her your bitch.

Funny you mention this now.  I had an odd dream/paralysis thing a couple nights ago.  Woke up with the feeling there was something moving around in the room which is freaky in itself because there is no way to get into the room without making a huge amount of noise (Solid door with noisy electronic cipher lock).  I could not move and only stare at the ceiling and i felt something put it wight on the mattress on the right side of the bed.  it felt like something was walking/crawling on the bed and it stepped over my torso but i couldn't look down to see what it was.  Then a dark shadowed face came into view a couple inches from my face looking at me closely.  I kept trying to move and it seemed like forever but i was able to move my finger then my arm and I took a swing at the figure as hard as i could with a right hook.  Felt the punch connect and as soon as it did the figure disappeared.  Strangest part is my hand hurt like a mother fucker for a while.

It happens to me every once in a while. It feels like my body is thrashing about because I'm trying to wake up before something enters the room.

If I posted what I experience when under conscious sleep paralysis many here would think I was on drugs.  The buzzing sound is crazy but is a great trigger to launch OBE.

Its the most common experience. If you teach yourself to go OBE the buzzing stops when you launch. The buzzing and black hag are what are commonly known as the demons on the threshold.

Sleep paralysis, lucid dreaming and out of body projection (OBE) go hand in hand.  I have been training in meditation and occult sleep manipulation for over 15 years.  You can learn some amazing things about yourself in naturally altered States.

Yeah, I used to get those really bad.  Sometimes they were accompanied by hallucinations, usually of a vague figure straddling me and occasionally choking me (and also the lights, like you describe, or flashing lights, or a red glow coming from the window, or a broader strobe effect, often with accompanying sound).  Apparently the word nightmare was applied to sleep paralysis incidents of that sort.  I've also had some where it feels and looks like I'm being pushed or pulled by someone or something outside of my vision or like I'm being grabbed.  They seemed to tone down after I learned what sleep paralysis is; I think the severity may depend on one's level of fear.

I rarely get sleep paralysis of my vocal chords.

If I do, I'll usually wake up yelling at the top of my lungs something along the lines of "Help!", "Shut up!", "Run!", or "Ahhhhhh!"

One thing that I found odd was that I'd see myself while out of my body just before an earthquake would start and then I'd wake up, and a couple of seconds later the earthquake would actually start.  That's been happening since I was 5.

I've never had anything like that. But, I do have a rare sleep disorder called REM sleep behavior disorder. It's when the exact opposite happens and your brain doesn't keep your body still while you dream and you move around. i.e. if you're dreaming you are riding a bike your legs kick just like you are peddling. It took a long time before I got diagnosed and it took my Ex wife to get me get a sleep study done and I later went to mayo in Jacksonville Fl to confirm it.

Looking back now that I know what's wrong I can remember many girlfriends complaining about me kicking the shit out of them in bed, or worse punching them and hitting them. I even remember kicking one girl so damn hard that she flew out of bed lol. I know, it's not funny but it really kind of is.

I did some research on the disorder and found that people have killed there spouses in their sleep. One account I read that a war vet actually choked his wife to death in is sleep. From what the docs told me, your life experiences or mostly what you dream about. So with me never experiencing any kind of life or death conflict my dreams are pretty tame.

The only treatment that I am aware of is prescription benzos and they seem to work pretty good on keeping me still.

Sad thing is, the majority of cases like mine later develop into dementia

There is lower vibrational "wildlife" in the astral dimensions that feed on lower vibrational energy like fear. Google the black hag and see what u get.
