Decided to try a small gardden watering project today.  A gravity feed drip system for the veggies.

Built a heavy stand to support a 50 gallon drum and did a 'proof of concept' plumbing job to see if it had enough pressure to get all 10 drip emitters working.

Success!

Now I just have to dig down for the hard line to each of the three beds, install a three way shut of valve, and run the 1/4" line and emitters for the other two beds.

Barrel and stand:

Last emitter out of 10:

Now the wife will be able to just open a valve and water the garden without having to stand there and do them

The stand?

That fucker is solid.  No wiggle at all.  With three grandkids under 6 years old living here, I made sure that it was safe.

Fill it from the tap.

Not enough rainfall this late in the year to even come close to filling it.

Nice.

Are you going to make some kind of rain-catch system for that?

Might make for a good system for keeping my crepe myrtles around the house watered.

eta: Ah, I see.   Still beats depending on timers.

No rain catch.

With the emitters I used (1/2 gallon er hour) this system will only use 5 gallons per hour for each bed.

So an hour a day for each bed will provide more than enough water for the off days when the City says I can't water due to the drought.

Finally got the system finished.

3 beds with (10) 1 gallon per hour emitters each.  Enough pressure to run all three beds at once.

So the city doesn't want you to water on off-days... but they're ok with you storing up the water in a barrel during the on days, then watering your plants on the off-days with it?

Well, it's not like I asked permission from them.
