so, i know alot of people hate the movie smoking aces. i actually really dig the first 3/4's of it. it builds up every character, funny scenes ( hookers) etc.

yeah, i really hate the ghetto black chick, id bang alicia keys, i dont know why ryan reynolds would return fire with a pistol from 300 yards away, etc and i think the tremor brothers and the guy who makes masks kick ass...

but i have watched it 1/2 a dozen times... well, i thought i figured it out once.  so, buddy "Ace" is the FBI under cover's son who is believed by the mob to be a real mobster and the FBI wants "ace" smoked to used his heart to keep the FBI agent alive, right? is that the answer ? so Ace is expendable, the FBI just wants to keep their agent alive?  and the scene from the '50s when the guy shoots the other guy through the drivers window in the rain, thats the set up to make the FBI guy get plastic surgery ?

That's my take on the move anyhoo.....

ETA:  Really didn't like the Tremor brothers characters.... How they managed to stay alive (in business) post "Smokin' Aces" defies belief...

why is that ?  their characters were suppose to be fucked up, mentally insane with a hint of nazi to them. and thats how they did their job. Jeeves Tremor ( the tallest one ) has one hell of a long list of movies and tv shows from well before Smokin Aces.

I don't remember the exact specifics but heres what I remember.

The undercover FBI guy was supposedly killed. The FBI swept his identity under the rug and pretty much put his file where it wouldn't be found. He survived however, and became a mobster, eventually using all of his knowledge to become the boss.

"Ace" apparently was his illegitimate son, unknown to everyone but the former FBI agent/head mobster. He realizes he needs a heart transplant so he offers the 1 million dollar bounty for Ace's heart. The FBI overhears this (and along with a lot of wanna be hit men) they all think he simply wants "Ace" to be killed and his heart ripped out.

In the end when the FBI realizes the head mobster was a former FBI Agent, they decide that Ace really is expendable because even though his testifying in court would bring down a lot of mobsters, the head mobster/former FBI Agent knows EVERYTHING about the mob for the past however many years.

And no, the scene from the 50's was the former agent (and now head mobster's) supposed death. The FBI agent started getting plastic surgery far before that so he could go undercover with the mob. He developed some kind of disorder (forgot the name of it) where he is obsessed with surgery and altering his appearance. Since he continued to change his physical appearance, and since the FBI (his former employer) though he was dead, no one ever suspected that he survived/was the former FBI agent. I think he had hundreds of surgical procedures done or something.

Now I can't remember exactly how the FBI figured out that he was the former agent, but if I had to speculate I'd say he tipped them off. He knew he'd be so valuable to the FBI that they'd keep him alive. So his 1 million dollar bounty on Aces heart was simply to keep eliminate Aces friends/workers and to keep Ace out of prison/ from escaping until the Swedish heart doctor would arrive and the FBI took over. Remember the hit man (the one with the masks) was waiting for the FBI to storm the place? His job wasn't to remove the heart (even though he had the equipment) I think all that was a ploy to fool the lower level FBI agents. He made a perfect escape while in FBI custody so he had to have been preparing for that.

And yeah, I hated how the FBI simply sprayed bullets towards gunshots coming from hundreds of yards away... Especially since they were in a city, and they were firing at a hotel or something like that... No way they could have known which room the gunshots were coming from... So in affect they sprayed bullets into a hotel because someone was shooting at them from that hotel.

Otherwise it was a very entertaining movie... I've watched it quite a few times.I love the scene where the nazi brothers come out of the elevator, smoke, chainsaws, shotguns, machetes, etc.

I thought is was a great movie, for a over the top shot em up movie
Yes I belive they wanted Ace for his heart to give to the old mob boss, which was a FBI agent looooong ago, and father to Ace.
Get the heart to keep mob boss alive to get fifty years of intel from him.
Yes it was a cheezy movie but it was entertaining
I was rolling when one of the Tremor brothers was making Ben Aflack talk by moving his mouth after he killed him
The .50 was cool, and the elevator scene with that one hit man and Ryan Renalds partner was crazy
I liked it
and the crazy kid with an eye patch on Ritalin....." I fell you eye ballin me dog!"
WTF???
