Dinner snake.  Had a king snake on my road.  He wouldn't move until he was poked with a stick.  Didn't want to run him over as they eat rattlers and rodents.

Texas Brown Snake - about 12" long I gather?  Here's one I tossed back outside yesterday...

6/8/2013 2:49:26 PM EDT
[#23]
It didn't have any specks or bands. Gray. Dag got it and she's not acting well. I gave her a Benadryl.
6/8/2013 2:49:38 PM EDT
[#24]
It's kind of hard to tell from your pic, but I thought I saw the characteristic banding on the head of the Tx Brown. If it's a solid color, then it's a rough earth snake. I toss out two every day as the cat keeps dragging them in:

I'm sticking with Tantilla.

Diadophis punctatus, Western Ringneck Snake?

Is that a ring just behind the head? Photo is not very clear.
6/8/2013 3:03:27 PM EDT
[#31]
That's a huge quarter!!

All snakes are King Cobras,  all spiders are a cross breed of black widow/brown recluse and tarantulas and all need to be NUKED from orbit.

One night, the cat brought in about four in less than an hour. He walks in, meows, drops them on the floor and then lays down. Lazy bastard. Every single night I toss out one minimum. Very harmless, docile snakes.

I think it's a warbler.

Could be a dingbat though.

He's right.  they have the same venom characteristics as garter snakes.  It's a mild venom that is basically harmless to most larger verts.

He would do that once in my house. The wife would be throwing his dead body out with the snake.

Note to self: if you ever visit Texas and need a place to sleep, don't ask Zhukov. TRG's house would be safer.

My wife loathes snakes too, but she's pretty rational about it as long as she doesn't have to touch them.

The rat snake we had in our front tree a few years ago - now that was a different story. She was NOT happy when I grabbed the snake in order to take it to an abandoned field, but then dropped it when it squirmed unexpectedly.

For reference: My son was close to 6ft tall in that picture.

I just fixed this tonight - a spicy cajun crawfish and shrimp pasta with sauteed cremini mushrooms, scallions, and grated Parmigiano-Reggiano.
