Anyone know anything about the healthiness of these things?  I'm not a nutrition expert, but these things taste way better than any other protein bar I've had.  So, I'm sure they are not healthy.  Just wondered what you smart guys thought.

Let's see:

Ingredients:

Quadratein (Soy Protein Isolate, Peanut Flour, Whey Protein Isolate, Calcium Caseinate), Caramel (Corn Syrup, Starch, Skim Milk, Glycerin, Milkfat, Palm Kernel Oil, Lactose, Salt, Natural Flavor), Glycerin, Polydextrose, Peanuts, Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Chocolate, Cocoa Powder Processed with Alkali, Tapioca Starch, Salt, Spice, Sucralose, Natural Flavor. Vitamins and Minerals: Tricalcium Phosphate, Magnesium Oxide, Sodium Ascorbate, Niacinamide, Vitamin E Acetate, Biotin, Ferrous Fumarate, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine HCL, Vitamin A Palmitate, Zinc Oxide, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Cyanocobalamin, Folic Acid.

The protein's first ingredient is soy protein which is not ideal.  Palm Kernal Oil is not the best oil for you by a long shot, corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup aren't great either.

On the whole it isn't that bad for you.  It has a lot of protein and if you are only eating them every once in a while it's not bad.  I would not eat one of these every day though.

I tried these last year and it tasted like a Snickers bar that had been soaked in gasoline.

I decided to skip these kinds of bars and stick with ON 100% Whey for protein and eating cleaner natural foods.

Well then, what are you guys using for bars and what do you recommend? I can only eat something that tastes like crap for so long and then I give up on it.

Short answer:  I don't eat bars for protein.  I eat bars for calories or carbs.  I take whey powder for protein.

I like the Clif Nectar Bars which are basically just fruit and nuts and the Clif Shot Bloks if I am looking for a quick blast of carbs.

One of the best tasting protein bars I've ever tried: http://www.pureprotein.net/pages/productDetail.aspx?PID=13352

These are also good in the Chocolate Peanut Crunch flavor: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/promax/promax.html

+1 on the pure protein bars.  you can buy them at target for $1 each - box of 6 for $6.  they are the best tasting, best value, and the nutritional quality is as good as any out there.

I think that the Snickers bars are actually great. If something tastes like shit, I won't eat it. The nice thing is, they're loaded with a lot of extras that standard "protein" bars aren't (fiber, vitamins, minerals).

I like to mix up my bars so they don't get redundant. These and Clifs (I think) flavor wise are the best.
