I am sure this has been posted a hundred times but DAMN. This is probably my favorite scene ever from a war type movie. They even captured the vapor trail right before it goes through the first guys head....pretty impressive. Sniper scene from Generation Kill |
Must be a daylight filter on the front, then? That was pretty good the way they captured the trace like that, that's exactly what I remember it looking like from shooting highpower. |
I don't recall him being very liberal at all. I thought the book was surprisingly fair. |
According to the Generation Kill web site on HBO, it's an AN/PAS 13 TWS Generation Kill website Gear Up section |

I read the book a few years ago. It's a very good book. I haven't watched any episodes but I can tell from the clips it doesn't follow the book to closely. Most of the time in the book, the Marines were packed in a Humvee, blitzing through a town as the entire town tried to kill them. Mostly a tale of how the Marines try to survive in spite of the general fucktardedness of their superior officers. Most of the officers knew absolutely nothing and would throw them into death traps, trying to get a promotion for being heroic. |

Hey if everyone goes to that website on the first page that loads on the right there is a button that says Support The Troops. Click it then hit "Donate Now" apparently they will make a donation in your name, and all you have to do is give your email address to them. |
The spotter in that scene is a practicing Buddhist. The mantra he is heard chanting at times: "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo" is called Daimoku and is a practice of those who follow the Lotus Sutra, and a Nichiren sect more specifically. In it's simplest interpretation, it means "Devotion to the Law of the Lotus Sutra"... You can think of it as shorthand of ALL of the teachings compressed into one statement. Not all Buddhist practices teach absolute non-violence, despite the western stereotype to the contrary. Often, force against evil is the right path (or dharma). |
Maybe, I honestly haven't had time to catch any of the episodes, and I read the book like 3 years ago, so my memory might be a little fuzzed. |
On Time Warner cable boxes, you can view all three episode "On Demand" part of your cable box. That way you don't have to wait for a repeat or if you forgot to set your DVR. You have to have HBO on your cable subscription. It would be worth the $10 for a month, just for this series. On Demand ==> Premiums ==> HBO On Demand ==> Generation Kill |
I've read that's one of the things officers ended up getting fragged in Vietnam for. ![]() Stupid........ |
Interesting, thanks! |
He is a liberal, and still the book is surprisingly fair. I think speing all that time with those guys in that kinda shit scrubbed his brain some. |
