Global warming All those thermometer-swinging egg heads forgot one little thing which regulates temperature, WATER. Evaporating water absorbs a LOT of heat. Every pound evaporating absorbs over 1000 BTUs. This heat is released once the vapor condenses, most often at altitudes out of the reach of thermometers. In your case, something else happened. By freezing, the liquid water also gave up another 144 BTUs to the atmosphere, again where thermometers usually aren't. Just like sweat cools a body, evaporating water cools the surface of the earth! |
No, not yay. I'm stuck in Laramie 50 miles from my nice soft bed. 80 and 287 are closed, not sure about wy34, but don't want to waste gas drivng up there to find out. I left Rock Springs at 6pm yesterday
Been hanging out in the wally-world parking lot waiting for the pass to reopen. Only good thing is I went in and bought Battlefield 3 |

What the fuck! First snow of the year? In October! Holy shit, somebody call the weather channel and the AP so they can go batshit crazy over this like the "heatwave" we experienced this summer. On another note, looks like fun! I just ordered a pair of Sorels for my boy. One of the things I hated about my childhood was wearing crappy moon boots. I refuse to stick my kid in those so long as I can afford better. |

I was surprised they kept I25 open to Cheyenne last night. We have trees down all over town this morning. Made the drive in to work interesting |

I ran one load of flowback from about 60 miles south of Rock Springs, to the disposal which is about 50 miles north of Green River, then drove back to Rock Springs to drop off my truck. Jumped in my pickup and hauled ass eastbound. Was good until a few miles east of Rawlins, then just got shitty. |
