U.S. charges Snowden with espionage
By Peter Finn and Sari Horwitz, Friday, June 21, 3:04 PM Federal prosecutors have filed a sealed criminal complaint against Edward Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor who leaked a trove of documents about top-secret surveillance programs, and the United States has asked Hong Kong to detain him on a provisional arrest warrant, according to U.S. officials. Snowden was charged with espionage, theft and conversion of government property, the officials said. The complaint was filed in the Eastern District of Virginia, a jurisdiction where Snowden’s former employer, Booz Allen Hamilton, is headquartered, and a district with a long track record in prosecuting cases with national security implications. A Justice Department spokeswoman declined to comment. |

Quoted: Sealed complaint? What are they afraid of, that everybody will know about it? Bit late for that now.............and it makes the fed look like they want to hide what they were doing, not the smartest thing to do right now. On the face of it the fed will cop to not wanting to expose any further classified information....I'm still on the fence about the guy. He did expose the fact that the government is spying on us. |

I have a hunch history is going to see him in a much more positive light than our legal system likely will in the short term. |

Quoted:
What he did was against the law and he'll be punished for it. However, it's every man's duty to expose unconstitutional behavior, so if we allow him to be punished we're as bad as the Government punishing him. The laws he broke were/are immoral, and he's a hero amongst cowards and thieves. I wish him the best; I wish those who oppose him would all join the Peace Corps and move to some dark corner of Africa. |

Laws requiring you keep quiet about injustice are no laws worth following. |

Then if anyone exposes what the .gov did, that person is a criminal regardless of the actions of the gov? |

This little incident should curtail the.GOV's use of contractors. I know they are trying to save money etc, but heck we are talking national defense. I literally laughed out loud at the part in the red. ETA: I worked at the largest government contractor in the world for most of my life. They basically write blank checks. The defense contractor lobby is huge, and has deep pockets with many officials inside those pockets. That's why the government has so many defense contractors. Nothing to do with saving money. |

| Good luck with extraditing him back to the US! I'm sure the Chicoms are very interested in keeping Snowden, regardless of any extradition treaties. If that doesn't work, Russia said that they'd be happy to consider an asylum request from Snowden. Something tells me that he's probably not coming back. |

This whole fucking thing... I did not watch my buddies die face down in the muck so that this fucking strumpet... Nobody died face down in the muck so the federal gvt could tap my phone, read my email, and stick its finger in my ass at the airport, either. |

I've seen some of the best emotional arguments come out of this. Because of Snowden, we're all going to die, the troops sacrificed for nothing, Freedom is going to die!

I believe there is a moral obligation to disregard unjust laws. This would be one of them.
If I ever ended up in federal custody I would probably off myself to deny them control over me, seeing how pretty much everything they do now is unjust and therefore void. I don't recognize their jurisdiction over me. |

I don't recognize their jurisdiction over me. That's really the trick, isn't it? Their authority relies on your compliance. Sure, they can arrest you, torture you, kill you, etc... but if you don't give them compliance then they have nothing but force. |

Hopefully, they give him the same treatment as the Rosenbergs. He earned it. So did the people that are responsible for this program. I'm more interesting in seeing them fry for it, though. I'm quite sure congress will look into it, and the NSA janitor responsible for this will be severely punished! In fact, he'll probably share a cell with the ATF secretary responsible for Fast and Furious. |
FedDC is Holder's troll account.
