I'm looking to buy a pair of modern snow shoes.  Previously I've only used the leather thong/wood frame type (michigan style I believe).  I'm looking at the Tubbs Frontier 36".  Amazon has them for $136.  I've looked at a couple Tubbs models and these have the bindings that look the nicest to my uneducated eye.

What says Arfcom?

I put miles upon miles on mine every winter while i'm rabbit hunting. Great shoes, and great customer service.
eta: that's a good price for those shoes too.

Good bindings make the snowshoe. It's the most impotant part.

MSR Lightning Ascents

These are the best you can buy, don't ask me why.  They have a serrated edge all the way around.  It acts like a hugh crampon.  You will NEVER slip going traverse.    And it will climb like a banchee.  About $180.... and worth every penny.   i got a garage full and these are all I use.

I have an older set of 28" tubbs and love them, my dad uses MSR's and swears by them. I would say you cant go wrong with either one, but if you can find a store that has them in stock, go try them on.

Depends on what you're using them for. If you plan on steep inclines and/or carrying a pack, you'll want a mountaineering snowshoe with an aggressive crampon. Those look like they'll be fine for anything short of really steep, icy stuff.

If you are going to be traveling, rather than standing around, you should consider telemark skis and climbing skins.

Edited to swap for a better video.
