I have not had a drink in 3 weeks, which is good for me. I have had a problem with binge drinking ever since I've became a quadraplegic, mainly cause I get so bored and it was one of the few things I could do. I am feeling pretty good so far, and to be honest its been hard at times. Coming here has made it easier. Just thought I'd share and thank yall. |

So I'll ask... how did you recently become a quadriplegic? It wasn't recent its been almost 10 years of ups and downs, I broke my neck in 3 places C5,6 and 7 in a ride off a highway overpass when the driver decided to take a catnap. I was already napping and didn't wake up for two months later from being in a coma. |

We'll help you keep your spirits high and keep the "spirits" out of your glass.Quoted: So I'll ask... how did you recently become a quadriplegic? I'm on week 7. It's been hard for me, too. Have you tried an AA meeting? If transportation is a problem, give the local central office a call, they can arrange transportation or send guys to you to talk/etc. I've seldom met a group that will do so much to help people.
If you want a copy of the big book or "Living Sober" or a 24-hour token, send me an IM. |
|
I'll ask the question on everyone's mind....If you are a quadriplegic, how are you binge drinking? I don't mean to be insensitive, I'm just curious about the mechanics of it.
In any case, glad you're holding off. This is a fun place to hang out, though the combination of quitting drinking and GD may lead to high blood pressure.

I guess the real turning point for me was shooting out my ceiling fan a few weeks ago, and just got to the point of having to make the choice of stopping some of the insanity of whats become of my life. |

I'm classified as quadraplegic because although I can move my arms, my left hand is useless and I only have the use of three fingers on my right hand. My legs are useless as well, you can still get in alot of trouble with three fingers. Sometimes its just been easier just to drink until I passed out, you can only sleep so much to pass the hours of the day while the world goes by. I was always very active before I got this way, the hardest thing to learn is dealing with the boredom. TV sucks, video games are a bitch with three fingers on one hand, kinda limited as to the things I can do. Just trying to deal with the reality of life the best way I can without the fuzziness of alcohol, reality is sometimes not easy but it is what it is and I just need to learn to deal with it. I've been trying to put it off for so long, but if I continue of the path I was on, I won't see my grandkids grow up and they are what really give me one of the few pleasures I have in life. Makes me want to stick around |

Nobody does, but I can say that as much as I hate to live life like this I am very grateful that those grandkids are around to make life worth living because without them I would not have anything to hold me here. No amount of money, no material thing, nothing but the innocence of children and seeing the world through their eyes makes life worthwhile for me and what a gift that is! I am a very wealty man I am, not in money or material things but what is really priceless in life, when they call me "Paw Paw" and hug me and want to hang around with me. |

I can't imagine the changes in your life. I am proud of the steps you're taking to sober up. I'll keep you in my prayers! Thanks man! Somebody told me " You never know how strong you realy are until you have no other choice but to be strong." Its so true. |
