about getting a 30-06 or a .308 Ruger American about a week ago I got some good insight into both calibers and the rifle.  But, the correct answer as always will be "GET BOTH!"
Stopped at the LGS to pick up one of each after mentioning to my Dad how inexpensive they were.  He told me he wanted one in 30-06, so I was like perfect, I'll get the .308.  Well all they
had left was one American in .243.  Called their other store and told them to hold the 30-06 for me.  I picked up a Savage M11 with a decent Nikon scope in .308 and got the American for my Dad.
Also picked up a Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 6-18x40 for my LMT 308.  I'll get more pics up after I'm done swapping glass around.

Going to put my other Leupy 6-18 onto this M11, put the Nikon glass on the American for my Dad.

Nice!  I've been contemplating selling off my .30-06 to get a .308, mainly because I plan on getting an AR in that caliber, so I'd have two good guns that shoot the same round.  However, going into a few gun shops lately and seeing STACKS of .30-06 ammo, for the same price as usual, and hardly any .308 anywhere...I think I'm going to just "get both" eventually as well, and keep the trusty '06.

ARF wisdom isn't to be taken lightly, it usually ends up being the right choice in the long run.

Nice rifles too!

You should have also bought the .243.

You could field dress a deer on that carpet and no one would be the wiser.

Thats the same dilemma I was having.  Should I add another caliber to my stable that is readily available? Or stick with just .223 and .308 since thats what my AR's are.  So it was a relief when Dad told me he wanted one.  Plus I always wanted a bolt gun and at these prices, it was a no brainer.  330 for the American and 500 for the savage with glass.
