Someone help me. When I upgraded my cell plan last week, they retained my phone numbers, but lost my ring tones. Since my phone had a record feature, I'd "rolled my own" with regard to ring tones. For example, my main ring was Tom T. Hall's "Faster Horses". Not the whole thing, just the chorus/refrain. So I am surfing the provider's website yesterday, and see that they have "Money" (Pink Floyd). I have always loved the intro to that song, so I downloaded it. Guess what? Not the whole song, and not the part I want at all. On my other phone, by "rolling my own," I meant that I played the song on my stereo, PC, etc, and just hit "record (begin)" and "record (end)" manually. What I'd like to do is cut down an .mp3 or .wav, etc and email that to my phone (pre-cut, in other words). What is the term for this? What is the best free software to do it with? I've got Winamp, JetAudio, WMP, Sony SonicStage, and a few others installed already. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. |

Here's how I crop my mp3's down to aprox. 30secs. Open the Windows Sound Recorder (included with Windows) and open the file (if you can't find Sound Recorder, Start->Run->"sndrec32"->OK). Ringtones shouldn't be longer than 30 seconds and cell phones have limited memory. Therefore, shorten it to 30 seconds or less. You can also crop it so it starts at the beginning of the choirs. To crop the audio clip, use the "Edit" menu to "Delete Before Current Position" or "Delete After Current Position". Click the "File" menu and select "Save" which will overwrite the file. Hope that helps. |
| I use BitPim and bluetooth for all of my cell phone needs. It maintains contacts, call histories, photos, backgrounds, and even has a sound editor for ringtones. |
Ditto. I use this to cut clips of songs and then I use Motorola software to upload them to my phone via USB. You should be able to email it straight to your phone though. |
