Shot my AR today with a friend at the range. My scope is out for repairs, so I decided to sight in my new Troy BUIS instead.

I shot these at 100 yards with the rifle below. There are a bazillion orange dots on each because I ran out of the big stickers, and I can't see crap from that far.

Ammo: 69 and 77 grain open tip match

Barrel: 18" White Oak SPR stainless 1/7 twist mid-length Wylde chamber

Trigger: 2 stage RRA

Shot off of Some cheapo Wal-Mart shooting bags.

Is this decent for iron sights? Serious question. All the reports of 1/100th of a MOA off-hand groups at 1000 yards has skewed my reality.

Sights must be off as evidenced by the targets.

You should attend an Appleseed.

I would think with the rifle and ammo and using irons, most good shooters could get 2 inch groups easy.

3" - 4" at 100 yards with irons is pretty decent. A more symetrical aiming point might have helped your groups some. If you want to improve more go to an Appleseed and learn the finer points of precision shooting.

Kind of depends on your definition of good and easy. 2" with irons is an impressive group if you're not talking about cherry picking 3 round groups.

These were 2 of the first groups I shot. Ten shots each.

Any adjustment past what I had resulted in POI overshooting POA even farther. This was as close to center as it got.

Maybe you should try shooting at a target with more clearly defined borders/edges so that you come back to the same POA every time.  That would help a lot.  Does that make sense?  I'm going to bed.

That's not too bad with irons off a rest.  The front sight being on the float tube is going to reduce the precision of the gun a little.

I agree, the target gets tiny behind that post at 100 yards.

Bump for more input from day crew.

That's really not too bad for the target you used.  Looks like 1 or 2 might be just out of the 10-ring on a reduced SR target (10-ring on the 200 yard reduced target is 3.35").  I would download a reduced target, and see if you get better results since it has a nice, black aiming circle.  Or just spray-paint the paper plate.

That's not bad.

Practice with those iron sights will make it better.

Appleseed or, better yet, NRA Hi-power matches, will make your iron sight shooting real good.
