I'm a very early Millennial (82) that has constantly found myself with far more in common with Gen X than my younger brothers who are also Millennials (88 and 89 respectively). They grew up in a world dominated with tech and the internet, even in its early form, in every aspect of their life while I still remember a time growing up listening to vinyl, before we got our first top load VCR, before we got our Atari and Commodore 64, when we got our first dial up internet account (which was per the minute data), and then our first "high speed" 768k DSL. The "analog childhood and a digital young adulthood" rings very true. Most of my friends are Gen X rather than fellow Millennials.
There's a lot of we early Millennials, mostly born up until about 84 generally, that find ourselves in this spot. Enough of us to be considered Xennials that share very similar life experiences. |

Gen X is mostly a conservative generation.
We have the ones that enjoyed their free range childhoods and the small segment that hated it and now attempt to smother everything and everyone around them with their sense of karenthority. |

Quoted: Okay. But I'm willing to bet, whether you're willing to admit it or not, that you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about when it comes to how exclusive the boomers were back then. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: I'm a boomer [albeit on the tail end] and my first rifle was an AR. Still own it in fact. Okay. But I'm willing to bet, whether you're willing to admit it or not, that you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about when it comes to how exclusive the boomers were back then. The old boomers, a rifle [or shotgun depending on hunting laws] was only needed to hunt. Handguns.......many could take them or leave them, younger boomers, we loved all that shit. Black rifles, revolvers, pistols, hi caps, new and old stuff. And we realized guns are useless chunks of steel, aluminum and wood or plastic without ammo. CCW laws were shit in most states back when I was young, I had to go before a board for review just to get one for hunting and such and they STILL gave me a hard time. That was old boomers and the silent generation which was, way to often, ''the government was always right and were all you needed'' types. |

73 model Gen X master race checking in.
Like many others, I was a latchkey kid with divorced parents. My brothers and I spent many hours entertaining ourselves by riding our bikes all over town. We would ride for hours to get to the mall or go to the movie theater. My stepdad had a station wagon at one point and my brothers and I would fight to sit in the very back in the rear facing seat. We would pretend we were tail gunners shooting down German or Japanese fighters. We saved our money to get the most realistic and badass looking toy guns we could afford. None of this orange plastic tip bullshit - it was awesome. Our friends and I would run around chasing each other though our neighbors yards with them. No one called the cops or gave a shit. As others have said, analog childhood, digital adulthood. |

I hate to wax nostalgic, but I miss gunracks in trucks. Old men in coveralls. Real men who could fix things, women that could cook. WW2 vets. Walking down the road with a 22 and nobody batting an eye. I remember trying to buy 22 shells at Walmart when it finally opened and being shocked they wouldn't sell them to me ( I was 14 I think ). The old guy at the gunshop would sell them to me, along with blackpowder and cannon fuse. ( cant remember the name damnit ) ( He was an asshole though....)
Pocket knives at school, arguing with a science ( female ) teacher about bullet construction. Very few fat young people. Neon shorts and bikinis. This is still Texas, so its not that bad, but it is but a shadow of what it once was. And that makes me sad. |

As another Gen-X kid, the only thing that that grates about that article is that they finally decided to write it about COVID.
We've been here being Gen-X for 40+ years now. It was probably written by a Millenial. |

Gen x used to encompass more time into the 80s.
As millennials continued to prove their general shitheadedness the year crept backwards. I’m now a millennial allegedly. I was not always a millennial. |

Most of what is in that article can be applied to someone of any generation, not specifically X.
I’m a millennial and much of it applies to me. |

I think the author of the article needs to read about personality types like introvert and extrovert, before trying to associate personalities with human dating concepts such as decades and generations. Also I don't get all the pride in one's birthyear... it's not like you had a choice when you were born. You could be happy you are part of a certain generation, but pride should come from something you did.

Quoted: I laughed my ass off reading this! As a Gen-Xer, I can totally relate It Took a Global Pandemic, But Generation X is Finally Getting Love Sorry Boomers and Too Bad Millennials — Only One Generation Stands Out as Social Distancing Pros Generation X has been training for this moment its entire lives. It's their time to shine. The Baby Boomers were born to the Greatest Generation. They have changed nearly every aspect of society ? by their sheer numbers and their dominant influence. And Millennials have captivated attention for the past two decades ? they demand to be seen and heard. But there’s something missing — that forgotten generation, sandwiched in between the Boomers and Millennials. What are they called again? Anyone, anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?! A few months ago when the phrase “OK Boomer” really took off, my own teenagers tried a few times to pin it on me. In an attempt to completely dismiss me, they would laugh and say “OK Boomer” with that presumptuous eyeroll. Those cherubs got a quick lesson in the wonders of being a Gen Xer. There are roughly 65 million of us ? but we are easy enough to overlook. Generation X is generally accepted to have been born in that sliver of time between 1965 and 1980. What my teens didn’t know was that my entire generation has been dismissed from day one, and what’s more we don’t really care. It seems that it has taken a global pandemic for anyone to sing our praises ? to even call us by name. All of the sudden folks are impressed by our remarkable resilience, our ability to entertain ourselves for hours on end and our willingness to shelter in place without whining. All hail the forgotten generation ? we’re finally getting the recognition that we deserve. Gen X folks can actually thrive on solitude and enjoy their downtime, due to our advanced tolerance for boredom. We spent untold hours alone in our homes after school, fending for ourselves, living off Ding-Dongs and macaroni and cheese, as the first generation of latchkey kids. Social isolation is not only tolerable for us, Gen X requires a regular dose of it to recharge our batteries. So while you might already be flipping out, we are basking in the down time. We once focused all our attention on making mix tapes. Some of our best products took the entire weekend to create. Now that’s dedication. My first stereo had an 8-track player as well as dual cassettes for just that purpose. In fact, music and fashion are what really bind us together. Our music, while overly synthesized, remains gloriously unfaded. Our fashion choices, however, were tragic and I’m not going to make any excuses for those. Generation Xers are generally pragmatic, independent and resourceful. We don’t require a lot of hand holding. As Cold War kiddos, our duck and cover drills had more purpose. They were not only to prepare for a possibility of a tornado ? we also needed to identify our nearest nuclear fallout shelter. . . you know, just in case....
