Hello, my name is Dan, I usually can be found in the WA HTF. I am getting back in to private security, and have a couple of questions. Unless my future employer says no, I will carrying a 1911 .45 ACP single action (I do not want to start a discussion about how some people think this is not wise or a dangerous handgun to carry for duty reasons). This is a firearm I am extremely familiar with, and it seems that my future employer has no trouble with me carrying it for work. The trouble I am having is finding a good level III security holster for it. They seem almost non existent, and I understand why this may be (dated LE patrol weapon). If anyone has a link to a manufacturer of security holsters for the 5" barrel 1911, I'd appreciate it. Second, I need a refresher of some training for security/LE types, e.g. protecting against gun grabs, new compliance/pain techniques, holds, etc. Is there somewhere in the pacific NW that has this training available to civilians? TIA. |

Here's my suggestion: Buy a weaponlight for your 1911 and put it in a Safarliand 6280 or similar holster (the light rules, that's why I suggest it). Just about everyone at my department that carries a 1911 for duty (myself included) uses that set up. We've had no problems. You can buy upgrades for the 6280 that will take it to level III if you desire, or you can leave it at level II. Most of ours keep it at the standard level of security and don't add the knobs and levers. Sorry I can't help on the training suggestions. |
