SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says Starhopper’s next test flight is waiting for an FAA permit

"SpaceX CEO Elon Musk says that the company is working with the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to secure regulatory approval for Starhopper’s final flight, a significantly more ambitious 200m (650 ft) hop scheduled no earlier than August 15th due to permitting delays."

SpaceX settles on Friday for Starhopper’s next flight test milestone, FAA permitting

"The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has published Notices-to-Airmen (NOTAMs) for SpaceX’s next Starhopper flight milestone, a 200m (650 ft) hop now scheduled no earlier than Friday, August 16th.

During this upcoming test, the unusual Starship testbed and prototype will likely spend at least 30-60 seconds in the air, propelled by a lone Raptor engine producing up to ~200 tons (440,000 lbf) of thrust. Starhopper will then attempt to land a hundred or so feet east of its spartan launch mount on a dedicated landing pad. If successfully completed, CEO Elon Musk believes that either or both of SpaceX’s Mk1 and Mk2 Starship prototypes will be ready to begin their own series of more ambitious flight tests as early as September or October."

Looks like it

Hopper will also be retired after this hop and they will move testing to their orbital prototypes.  Rumor is that a successful 200m hop also triggers a progress payment for Dear Moon.

Its insane to think that Starhopper is making such huge strides while Blue Origin still hasn't had more than a few New Shepard launches. Remember that Bezos is pouring about a billion dollars into them annually.

SpaceX’s next Starhopper flight needs more analysis for FAA go-ahead, says Elon Musk

"According to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, the company’s next major Starhopper flight test is still awaiting FAA approval due to a need for more hazard analysis, presumably required because Starhopper will be traveling much higher than before.

On August 9th, SpaceX completed a routine wet dress rehearsal (WDR) with Starhopper, loading the vehicle with propellant and fluids and replicating a launch countdown up to the point of Raptor ignition. Starhopper remains untethered in a sign that SpaceX doesn’t have plans for a static fire test before the low-fidelity rocket prototype’s next flight milestone. Originally scheduled for August 12th, that milestone – a 200m (650 ft) hop test – has been indefinitely delayed as SpaceX awaits an updated permit from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)."

SpaceX's first Super Heavy hardware is already being built at Florida Starship campus

Based on some basic analysis of recent photos of SpaceX's East Coast Starship facility, situated in Cocoa, Florida, SpaceX has almost certainly begun fabricating and staging hardware that will eventually become part of the company's first Super Heavy booster prototype.

This is by no means surprising but it does confirm the reasonable assumption that SpaceX is already working hard to ensure that the first Super Heavy booster(s) can be assembled as quickly as possible. Additionally, SpaceX appears to have started clearing brush in the process of preparing to transport the Florida orbital Starship prototype ("Mk2") to SpaceX's Pad 39A launch facilities, dozens of miles away.

so... the road closures indicate tomorrow as a possible launch...

has there been any other indication of time or... FAA approval?

Just launch it anyway.  It's not like the FAA can shoot it down

When Starship gets online, Boca Chica will become a full-on spaceport and rocket building factory.
Those locals will be offered a deal they cannot refuse.
