Cool. It unzipped pretty fast too. Problem solved.

I wonder what all is involved in certifying it.

The atfs exploded fine last time.

The ship just didn’t explode when it activated.

That would make sense. Not sure why Elon said recertification would be the longest lead item of flight 2. Maybe just bureaucracy.

NASA's Amit Kshatriya, deputy associate administrator for NASA's Moon to Mars program, spoke about Starship's test flight and how NASA and SpaceX are working well together ahead of the HLS missions.

Key points: "We got a ton of data out of that mission" (Booster 7/Ship 24). HLS engaged with SpaceX and FAA post-flight.

Got to see Raptor production and ECLSS (life support) work at Hawthorne.

Still evaluating how many Tankers they'll need for HLS refilling.

NASA is "very confident that SpaceX is open to our input and conversely."

Comments made during the NASA Advisory Council Human Exploration and Operations.

Not Starship but ISS missions will be RTLS now.

Surely this evaporatively cooled plate fighting  17MN of thrust idea must involve thousands of man hours of testing before testing.

Burnt Orange got the second Lunar lander contract.  The best part is they had to shave their bid down to 3.4billion.  It won't surprise me if they have cost overruns and delays that tack on a few more billion.

Hasn't worked out so well for Boeing so far. NASA is not happy with them over their LEO capsule.

Not like NASA can do anything about Boeing under-delivering... again. Congress controls where the money goes.  After SpaceX won the HLS contract I was amazed how blatant Bezos's pet senator Maria Cantwell was lobbying congress for another 10billion so BO can build another moon lander.

I have a friend who works there who claims to have seen it, and I trust her.

That said, I'm I'll believe it can FLY when it DOES.

I suspect it's going to be something where they roll it out in a few months stating "it's ready to use now". Whether it performs in reality remains to be seen.

I was worried that more distance was required between nozzle exit and plate since it appeared that the Saturn V launch pads all had a considerable trench under a mountain of concrete.

Seeing the single engine test with the plate at close distance which appears to be the same as actual launch pad, I am really hopeful, that this relatively inexpensive add on saves the time and makes remote ground launch pads quicker and easier to build in the future.

Blue Origin has such a strange way of doing business. I think it says a lot when a company like Lockheed seems much more up front and talkative about aircraft with genuine classified ‘you get in big trouble for saying too much’ hardware than they are about... really anything it seems.

Are we going to wake up one morning and find a New Glenn sitting on a pad halfway into a wet dress rehearsal?

Rockets have their own lineages and for some reason, New Glenn reminds me of a seriously overgrown AIM-120. I don’t know why. They don’t even use the same fuel. They certainly don’t have the same purpose. And yet I sometimes find myself envisioning a space craft carrying 4 New Glenn’s as armament.

To be fair, NASA relaunched within 2 years each time they killed someone. And Apollo was a complete redesign of the Command Module.

For second launch, we need another camera equipped minivan to provide proper, easy to relate to, launch pad damage assessment or lack thereof.  A series of minivans located at various ground zero diameters would be best. Rather than arbitrary diameters, I suggest diameters be in multiples of Starship/booster height.

Bezos Inferiority complex to musk means BO has to act mysterious so they don’t look incompetent with as much money and more time than spacex.

NG was supposed launch in 21. I hope they kick ass but I have some doubts.

I mean they could spend years and billions before testing only to realize the whole thing is fucked because of some unforeseen real world issue that would have been better solved with a much more simple solution...

If what they currently have doesn't end up working maybe... but lets see if their current solution works first.

That being... Horizontal tanks for the water, and Nitrogen to pump into them to force the water out and through the pipes quickly and forcefully.

Agreed. A relatively small amount of water precisely timed also helps with their limitations regarding runoff too.

We would definitely already see the foundation if they intended to use a water tower for upcoming launches.

The solution to run-off is to collect and recycle it for next launch.

It would be, but they need environmental approvals to expand the site and build their proposed collection pond. So for now I think they'll keep it limited.
