FAA restricts airspace over Boca Chica test site next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
BROWNSVILLE The Federal Aviation Administration is restricting airspace around the SpaceX launch site early next week.
The FAA is restricting aircraft within an approximate 1.25-mile radius of the site Monday through Wednesday to provide a safe environment for space activity. The restricted airspace is from the surface up to and including 1,000 feet, according to the FAA notice. The notice was posted yesterday as SpaceX entered its second day of testing its Starship prototype. The airspace restrictions are scheduled to be in effect from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevio Jr. said yesterday afternoon he signed an order at SpaceX's request extending the closures of a portion of State Highway 4 to Boca Chica Beach so SpaceX can continue testing. |

 Starhopper Raptor Test at SpaceX Boca Chica Texas later that night.  Starship Hopper - Fire at Boca Chica Launch Pad this morning.  Live at Spacex Boca Chica Tuesday morning what ever that large flare up was... there doesn't appear to be any damage. |

The funny part of this is, if Starship stays remotely on-schedule, and the DearMoon circumnavigation expedition takes place in 2023.....NASA is likely to have the rather embarrassing experience of having their flagship mission (Americans on the lunar surface NLT 31DEC2024) be done by an architecture (SLS+Orion, or FH+SLS+Orion, etc) that is both massively less capable than Starship (which is a launcher, interplanetary spacecraft, AND a lander) AND not likely ready to go until a year or more after the first Starship lunar mission. Good times. |
| Can you imagine if this sort of quality of work was being applied to our defense spending contracts? I bet SpaceX could develop some awesome military aircraft or even ground vehicles, and do it under budget and ahead of schedule unlike pretty much the entire godforsaken defense industry. |
