Havent seen a thread like this, and not sure of how it will take off. Everyone always talks about their drawers of spare parts. How bout a thread showing them off? Unfortunately I am too new in this to have one, so i can't kick it off.

DUDE

As soon as this moving debacle gets all sorted out I will post pics.  I have two drawers of junk people shouldn't buy and a few things yet to be put to good use.

Until then it's about as real as my imaginary friend Henry, I suppose.

There ought to be a thread where you post pics of your parts bin(s) and then other members can chime in if they are interested in a particular part. From that point, the pic poster could list the individual part on EE as "reserved" for the member who chimed in. It would keep people from having to do those 4 hour long spare parts posts and it would offer the same amount of buyer/seller protection as EE affords.

I guess you could sort of to that in WTT but it would be more fun if it were structured as a pic thread.

Funny thing is that I just started trying to organize my parts this past week or so.  Right now I've got boxes, trunks, shelves, containers etc., and I'm always finding shit I didn't know I had.  The goal is to organize by gun type and label everything in plastic organizers so I can find something I need.  I post up once completed!!

It's funny that when you start taking a tally of all the "extra" AR parts you have laying around, it's only a few parts short of a whole gun.  Who'da thunk it???

I was just thinking the same thing last night as I was digging through mine looking for a crush washer.

Drawer?

Metal filing cabinet with index card sized drawers, each labeled by gun. If I find parts at shows or from blown up guns, especially the rare ones, they go in the correct drawer. Everything from bolt releases to FAL recoil springs, all in oiled paper in plastic bags.

Mines more of a future build drawer. I get the idea and buy the part, it'll get expensive if I rolled with each idea at one time.

ETA. My avitar can give you an idea.

Oh!  In after the lock!

Been organizing also.  Bins and stuff.

Found some old VHS plastic cases when converting tapes over to digital for the parents.  They are great for small parts and stack well on the shelf.  Sharpie used for a label since I don't really care about the case and I'm NOT that anal!

No pics, but I'll list my spare parts here:

1.  End plate from upgrading to Noveske QD.
2.  A2 grip from upgrading to MOE.
3.  CAR stock from upgrading to B5 SOPMOD
4.  Handful of Larue index clips.

For the small parts, (detents, springs, etc.) I got some plastic tubes from Sinclair (they're pricey these days, Brownells lists some in a bulk quantity at a lower price).

I got an exploded poster of an AR15 from Bushmaster with their part numbers by each part. I used Quark to knock out some paper labels with the info, rolled them up and put each label in the tube with its parts. I keep an inventory on an Excel worksheet.

The tubes go in a Plano fishing tackle gizmo from WalMart.

All the large stuff is in a Task Force tool box, one for my ARs, one for my FAL and one for my handguns.

Most of my reloading kit is in a large rolling plastic bin I got from Sears. Don't have a dedicated reloading site, bench in the house. I have a jig set up on a Work Mate bench I move to the garage in cool weather, in the house during the summer.

Okay, I remembered to snap a few pics.

I am the opposite of RCC1 above (his is what my shop aspires to some day) and this thread will no doubt become a testament to my extreme disorganizedness (if that ain't a word, it is now).

Since you asked about drawers specifically, the only drawers I have with AR parts are some of the filing cabinet drawers out in my shop which have furniture pieces in them (mags in others, etc.)...

And lest you think my disorganizedness (there's that word again!) is limited to the AR platform...

Most of the parts and pieces out in my shop are in old baby diaper boxes (older stuff) and Rubbermaid bins of assorted sizes (newer/more important stuff)...

Some of them are labeled, but most are haphazzard an unorganized...

Uppers waiting to be used are in padded boxes, usually the ones they were shipped in...

FTR, most of my ammo that isn't in the house or in the garage is also scattered about in that same shop...

Since the "shop" is just being used for storage at the moment and is no condition for me to work on guns there (yet!), I do keep some parts in the house.  Some of it is in smaller bins...

But the essential small parts are kept in tackleboxes, and can go to the range or a class with me if need be...

FWIW, fixing up the shop and building more shelves and a nice work bench is a project I hope to complete before the end of the year... I had really hoped to do it this past summer, but higher priority stuff kept getting in the way.

Some day...

Very good ideas. I've been thinking of setting up some plastic containers with spare parts.
