I am not sure how to open my success speech. It is on my experience in Marine Corps Boot Camp. I have two openings... 1) the begining of Full Metal Jacket - P.I. an 8 week college for the phony tough and the crazy brave... 2) Through These Portals Pass Prospects For America’s Finest Fighting Force: The United States Marines I need it for an attention grabber type opening. Thanks |

The opening is the LAST thing you write. A speech needs a theme and a message. Concentrate on them first. All of the speech is focused on that goal - otherwise it will wander and your audience will get bored. Leave 30 seconds for the opening. It should present an unexpected viewpoint that is somewhat provocative (not offensive or insulting to anyone in the audience) in terms of how your audience may see the subject and result in a new, fresh perspective. Know your goal and don't get lost in the details. I see a tragic number of speakers lose their audience in the first 2 minutes because they are whoring their own perspective without regard to their audience. |
