One of my coworkers siblings died yesterday due to a motorcycle accident.  He was wearing a helmet but he was going so fast the helmet actually tore part of his face off.  I feel bad for my friend and his family.  They are really nice folks.

RIP

Anyone else hurt?
I know this is harsh, but hard to feel sorry If he was going that fast in what appears to be a  business/residential area.

I honestly dont know. I dont think so.  But yes, it seems to be 100% his fault.  Play stupid games and all that.

Granted, you may feel bad for his family, but speed didn't kill him, poor decisions killed him.

Speed doesn't kill.  It's the stopping part that you gotta watch out for.

Yup.   Deceleration kills.

Quite true but you need sufficient velocity first. Then you decelerate

Guy i went to school with hit a rock wall over 100mph on his bike, took his head off with the helmet still on his head.

Not sure how you get ones head out of a helmet with no body attached to it.

You unfasten the chin strap, turn the helmet right side up, and shake.

Doesn't always take that much velocity in the right conditions.

Statistically speaking, motorcycles kill.

My friend died going about 30 mph.    Hit the brakes to avoid a car that was pulling out in front of him and went over the handle bars.   He had a helmet but the impact broke his neck.

I recall Natasha Richardson was going about 5mph when she fell while skiing. Michael Schumacher wasn't going very fast either and he was wearing a helmet.

Distant relative of mine was killed on a bike a few years ago.

Went under an 18 wheel semi tractor trailer on the freeway.

As I understand it they had to pretty much scrape what was left of him off the pavement.

I believe excessive speed and recklessness on his part was a factor, at least from what I heard.

They're not broken.

BODIES might be, the laws aren't.
