Looking at going in April.  Anyone do spring break there?

The alternative is Destin, FL.

Thanks in advance!

It's nice. Good fishing and not completely overcrowded.

Bring bugspray!

Why?  It's kind of nasty in my opinion. Guess if its close or something but I think fl or tx would be better.

Im sure you will have fun anywhere you go that is half decent.  We always went to daytona, but that was well over a decade ago.  I wish i could still party like that.

I live in Savannah, right next to Tybee.  My mom likes visiting Tybee when she visits and that's about the only time I cross the causeway to get to the island.  There's not a whole lot to do except hang out in a handful of bars and chill out on the beach.  Savannah has a ton of historical stuff to see and there's a bunch of Civil War forts to visit.

I guess it just depends on what you want to do on spring break.

Tybee Island?

I've been there once or twice.

I should have been more specific.  Me and the GF and her two kids (girl, 16 with her friend, also 16 and boy 12) are going.  I've been to SAV and love it.  We're just concerned about the kids having enough to do.

We were going to look at Hilton Head but she said the properties look a little run down compared to what you would expect.

I'm guessing this would be a better Fall or Summer destination.  I know it's ungodly hot in SAV in the summer...

Thanks!

Yea....clear water vs dark water. I live in GA and don't consider Tybee a beach vacation. I like clear warm water. Destin/Seagrove Beach.

Kids that age, I would say Destin too. Tons for everybody to do and more every year and very clean and some real upscale places around there. Went through Tybee with the wife last year when we went to Savannah and IMO it was run down and nothing but nasty looking bars and cheap hotels. Savannah was great though.

Tybee, HHI and SAV are all close together.

I live 25-30 from HHI, 30 to SAV and I would say about 45-50 to Tybee.

Spring break is for college kids, what you are proposing is a spring vacation.

The only bad thing about Tybee is the large numbers of jelly fish

You're gonna have a lot more to do in Destin, plus Eglin AFB is close and they have a kick-ass museum there.

True. Last time I was there, the beaches were covered with them.

If they're man-o-wars, you're in for a world of suck.

I can't comment as far as "spring break" goes, but they do have good fishing.

If you do go make sure to eat at Sundae Cafe.

Another Georgia guy here. We have a condo in Destin and Destin would be a better choice for the kids.

I love Texas, but I have no idea why anyone would travel 1,000+ miles to vacation on a Texas beach.

With the kids you are bringing, Destin...
More expensive, but you will be driving your ass off to keep the kids busy at Tybee.

As one who grew up going to tybee, go to Destin.  The sand sucks, water is murky  due to the marshes Spankys on the beach is ok but the island mostly shuts down at night.  On the plus side though, Savannah is not far and river street and market  district are fun at night.  If you end up around river street be sure to check out Savannah Smiles. Dueling piano bar great music lots of fun.
