Looking for advice on Springfield Armory scopes. In particular, I was looking at a GenIII 4-14 with the 308 reticule. I think S/A has gone out of the scope biz because I can't find them for sale on the internet. I'm wondering about the quality of the optics and the durability of their scopes. Also, if they have stopped selling these, who is handling the warranty (if there is any). Thank you in advance, Sleepy717 |

The "government reticle" (the funky one with the range estimator bars all over the place) fall apart. I finally threw mine out after the 2nd time it broke I guess the regular mil dot ones aren't as bad. I think they are Hakko scopes. Personally I gotta believe there is a better choice out there. |

Apparently, the 1st-Gen scopes were pretty good (at least, so say folks), but the 2nd and 3rd-Gen versions were cheap crap. Most of them had severe focus problems, especially towards the outside of the glass. Somewhere, I saved some pics posted by Kisara showing examples of his various optics, and the SA scope had major focus problems around the edges and was generally poor quality. You'd be far better off with a Leupold at the same price point, even though you'll forgo some of the features the SA scope gives you. The added features are in no way worth the trade-off of a fragile scope with poor glass and poor light transmission. I can't make any firm judgments of the 4th-Gen, but they're likely no better than the 2nd and 3rd. -Troy |

Thank you all for the responses. I will keep shoping. I looked at the SWFA Super Snipers, but would like a variable scope. I would have picked up the S/A scope last week, but when I mounted it on the rifle I'm scoping, it felt too tall and I had to lift my head and lost the natural cheek weld. Thanks all for the info.
