I'm looking for input on the Springfield XD45. I have always wanted a hi-cap .45 that wasn't a DA/SA, wasn't a DAO, and wasn't a Glock. I know Glocks are good pistols but the grip angle is terrible. Maybe it is because I am used to Sigs, Berettas, and 1911's but I can't shoot well with Glocks instinctively. The XD45 seems to have everything I want. I am debating on the 4" and 5" barrel lengths. Any experience with them regarding accuracy and concealability would be appreciated. I'm also debating on the standard or compact grip. Has anyone shot the compact with the mag extension? If so, did it feel solid or would a full grip be better? |

XD's are becoming popular at my department. I switched to a XD45 Tactical from a department issued S&W 4506. I love the XD. Had it for a little over one year now with no problems. The gun is more accurate than I am. I put on some cheap rubber stick on grips and life is good. Since I was changing guns, I also changed to a Safariland hood type security holster with no regrets. Some of the guys are shooting the Service model. I liked the Service model but felt the 5" barrel handled the recoil better and just felt better in my hand. Our smallest female shoots a Tactical because she shot better with it. YMMV. Of the 6 or so XDs here no one has had a malfunction over the past year. As far as the short grip Service model goes, I have only saw one once and did not fire it. One of our officers was going to get one but could not find a leather magazine holder for the magazines with the sleeve extension. Bucky145 |

I carry the XD45 Service with X200A light attached. I love this pistol. I'm a .45ACP guy anyway and was looking for something other than the Glock 22 my department issues. I tried for 2 years to get the 1911s approved but in the end the chief and I agreed on the XD. I've only seen the Tactical once and didn't get to fire it but it felt front end heavy to me. I've really enjoyed my XD so far and haven't (knock on wood) had a problem with it yet. Now that Safariland makes holsters for it I'll be switching back to Safariland at the end of the month. I've been using the Blade Tech holster and now I understand why Safariland lines their holsters. These are great pistols. You won't be disappointed! |

I love my xd9 and xd40. Very nice handguns. I have noticed ALOT of xd45s for sale by individuals but that may be from their huge boom when they first came out. You can pick them up used at xdtalk.com for pretty reasonable over new. (sorry didnt see this was brothers of the shield forum I am by no means a law enforcement officer )

No need to be sorry, some of the best firearms information comes from folks outside the LEO community. ![]() Bucky145 |
| I have a Xd 45.acp that I been using here lately, but I'm having problems coming to terms with its accuracy (ITs probably me) not the weapon, been using my H/K usp 45 1st gen and I'm pretty dead nuts with it all the way out past 25 yards... but with my XD the best I have gotten was about a 6 inch group with winchester ammo, but like I said its me and not the weapon..... |

The XDs I own are accurate and reliable. The 9mm contracted some rust issues (slide) and the ejector pin stopped working about 1500 rounds into it, but Springfield more that satisfied my problems. I believe they completely reworked the entire gun because it shot and looked better when I got it back than it did when I bought it. The .40 and .45 have both been nothing short of wonderful. As far as the difference in the grips between Glock and XD. After shooting my XD for a while I took one of my Glocks to the gunsmith and had him shave some of the polymer off the curve around the top of the back strap. This slightly changed the angle at which my hand rests on the grip and now I can acquire a solid grip with my Glock just as easily as I can with the XD and am just as accurate. |

I've had mine for a little over a year now and i love it. it shoots great. the recoil on it is'nt too bad, even though i have the 4" version. But with all that said, im going to be selling it soon i think. Thats only because i want a 1911 though and being a poor college student i cant afford both. i figure ill buy another one later on though. but it'll probably be 9mm as ill have the 1911 in a 45. But its really a great pistol. and im gonna hate to have to get rid of it |
| I give the guys in my dept. who carry an XD a lot of crap about it. But I have to admit, they are very accurate and shoot tight groups with Blaser practice ammunition. So, I would guess they would be more accurate with the duty ammo we issue. I haven't seen one have a failure to feed, or failure to eject yet. |

I am carrying a M&P 45, that I switched to recently from a glock 35. I love it. The wife, who also works at the SO in court services has been carrying a xd45 service model for almost a year now. She loves the pistol. She had been carrying an xd-9. She actually shoots the xd45 as well as or better than the 9. |

i bought the 5" when they first came out. ZERO failures in about 1500 rounds so far. i found cutting " skate" tape to fit the grips made a drastic difference in control. the gun is large and HEAVY i don't reccomend it for conceled work. accuracy if fantastic i just installed tfo night sights and they are outstanding on this gun. stay away from the magwell thats out for it. they are crap and will break easily. mike |
