Just moved into this house. Trying to get the sprinkler system sorted out. Two problems though.

First pic, bare pipe coming out the ground. I take it there is supposed to be a fitting to screw a sprinkler head in?

Second and third pic. It's a half circle spray. Sprays like shit though. Real heavy, not misty. I adjusted the screw, still no good. Unscrewed the spray head and cleaned the filter too.

I'm hoping I can just somehow replace just the spray nozzle?  This head is surrounded by tree roots, and digging it up will be a total bitch.

yup. You need to test in sprinkler and see if there are any clogs/obstructions. I redid sprinklers in last house and two of the PVC pipes for the sprinklers were filled with dirt. Don't know how. I had to replace all the spankers and adjust them too easy but tedious project

Adjusting spankers is a tough and tiring job.

What you have pictured looks like an adjustable head sprinkler.
It will,be a full circle down to less than a quarter spray.
It is so you only have to buy the one spray nozzle and use for all applications.

If you pry/pull up the pop up circle in the middle and hold it up, you should be able to turn the very top portion to increase or decrease the spray pattern.

If you're able to find the same brand/model of sprinklers, you should be able to just replace the top/guts of it, keeping the body in place, screwed into your pipe runs.  Might save you some digging now, but roots will eventually leave you no choice.

Thank you!  I'll give it a try
