Hivemind,
I have some bs spyware on my computer called "stealthSWs114.h!dll ver 4.442as18a"
I cannot get it off my puter.
I have all the McAfee stuff, Spyware Doctor, Spyware blaster and such.
I cannot even navagate to Windows update and my homepage has been reset.
This is a pain in the a**.

Any help would be appreciated!!
Second, I have heard that the Mac based operating systems do not have as much of a problem with spyware and stuff, thoughts??

Thanks in advance.

Try the Microsoft Spyware tool.  Here

It has worked well for me.

I use a combination of Spybot and Ad-Aware. Use them both and you'll get most of the spyware off your system. Both are downloadable for free.

Thanks guys,
I have the Microsoft spyware tool, spybot and Ad-aware....it beat them all.

My daughter is going crazy, so I'll have to fix it later.

Thanks.

Dump IE first of all and use a different browser.

As far as getting to the Windows Update - find all the hosts files (do a search on C drive for hosts) and delete them (the hosts file simply stores the IP address of your commonly used sites so IE doesn't have to use a DNS to look them up.  Once you do that restart IE and you should be able to get to Windows Update.  As for getting rid of it - look everywhere - apps installed into IE, programs installed, etc.

Hope it helps.

that's what i had to do....netscape always

if you have XP you have to turn off automatic restore then start in safe mode no connectivity and then run the programs.

My computer had it and if I remember right I used xoftspy and at first it didn't get rid of it, had to email them the log file and eventually they had me use "hijackthis" software to get rid of it. Here is a link to a forum that should help http://forums.spywareinfo.com/  There were several threads along the same lines. Probably not a easy fix but it should help.

I had something like that would come back each time i started my computer after I cleaned it off. I used something like hijackthis and deleted it off of my boot up list of programs and that took care of it for awhile.

I have my homemade spyware zapper *warning* do not do this if you dont knwo what you are doing, go through the Windows file and the system32 file and look the programs inside. Some things have weird icons that you can see instantly they arent windows programs. Another way is if you remember the date that you started having problems find the files created on that date, check them out first, then send them to the recylce bin and run your computer a few days before you delete those files. i have killed atleast 2 spyware things doing this that adaware and a few others couldnt get rid of permanentley. I wouldnt recommend this unless you've had enough of this spyware shit and want it gone.

XoftSpy
Spyware Nuker 2004
Searchbot Search and Destroy
NoAdware

I had a horrendous problem after opening a file I downloaded by mistake, then opened by mistake...

I paid for a couple of these, but my computer was 100% repaired.

I suspect the same people that write the trojans sell these programs, so I hate contributing to them....
