They've clarified it some more. They're also wiping rep, exec ships, and Wikelo gear, if anyone had questions about that. I can see why, except for rep. That is stupid unless there is some large change to it. Spectrum |

Good thing nobody bought all the stuff required to hand in to get a Polaris or Idris with exploited money or anything. I guess on the bright side, I'd been planning on starting a YouTube channel and one of the first things I wanted to do was a "start from scratch" video series showing how to make quick money doing cargo contracts. Looks like CIG saved me $45 since I was planning on buying a second account in order to be able to start fresh. |
Looks like Wikelo ships have been added to the wipe list. I'm much less annoyed by the wipe now ![]() Spectrum post |

Glad the ships are gone too. Lots of vids about the ironclad are out now. It’s looking like a good option for a pocket carrier/base. Once the crafting station and refuel/rearm are working for the assault, it’s gonna be a great ship. Assuming everything works right. |

I may have to buy a second account if I find time to move forward with YouTube after all. After looking through the free rental schedule, I have a plan to hopefully be back in or close to back in a C2 by the end of defensecon. There's no point in touring the Defensecon expo since I'll have like 50,000 aUEC to my name and won't be able to afford any good components, so I figure I'll spend the entire event using free ships to run cargo contracts and commodity trading, and hopefully I'll be at the 19m mark to be able to buy a C2 by the end of the month. Then it's just a matter of commodity trading my way back up into my 890J. I'm heavily considering getting into No Man's Sky to scratch that space exploration itch, though. At least those devs don't seem to actively hate their player base the way CIG seems to. |
|
I hope you can get back into the large contracts quickly. I don't haul, so I don't know how quick or slow it is to build rep for that. NMS is pretty fun. I started around the time they released the corvette update. |

I started around the time they released the corvette update. If you're talking contract hauling, it doesn't take all that long. Commodities don't require rep so far as I know. OTOH, contract hauls seem to be predicated on the number of boxes you move, so the higher rep contracts tend to have you move much larger shipments (boxes) much farther for about the same money. You can see how I'm skeptical of CIG's ability to create a working economy just based on that. |

You can see how I'm skeptical of CIG's ability to create a working economy just based on that. Yeah, contract hauling. I haven’t pursued that loop in a long time, so I’m out of my wheelhouse. I just know other loops can be tedious and grindy, so I figured CIG’s nonsense would carry over. Commodities are of course on your own. Too much risk for me. I like to build a nice bank and then just mess around with stuff. You are 100% on the economy. It’s been years since quanta has been mentioned officially. TonyZ is gone, and I don’t recall seeing anything about future plans. 9 NPCs to each player and all that it entailed was a great idea, but it appears to be dead. Too many exploits just hammers in the nail. I still love the game though lmao. |

The real key to commodity trading is to go after the low- and medium-value cargos. Nitrogen has historically been a fantastic money maker for me... It's something like 800k aUEC for a full C2 of it, it sells for something like 350k profit. If you somehow lose the cargo, it's a setback for sure, but it's not the end of the world like a cargo hold of gold or something would be. Even if you have the money for high-value stuff, it's not worth it due to having to play the "terminal refresh" game for an hour or more just to get a full cargo grid of whatever and at least as much time doing the same at the destination. Low- and medium- value stuff you rarely need to wait for. Eta: my current goal is to use the event rentals to try to get a C2 back by the end of Defensecon and then I'll start saving up to get my 890J back. I'll almost certainly skip a lot of ships I'd bought between 4.0 and 4.7 and just focus on the ships I used regularly. |

Yeah, I started the Seraphim-Orison contracts route after you told me about it a while ago. The big appeal to commodity cargo is that it's entirely hands-free, the only thing you actually have to do is fly; you can auto load and auto unload the cargo for around 14k at each end of the trip, so I like running commodities while I'm doing other things around the house. Surprisingly, I've only lost any amount of commodity goods three times in the 100m or so profit I've made doing it, and the only one that really stung was a full load of CM that fell victim to the Levski hangar floor (which was doubly annoying because I'd called the ship up from inside the hangar, so it *shouldn't* have glitched) |

I'm trying to adjust my stuff so I can grab the assault while giving them minimal new money and keeping useful stuff. I've only got an Intrepid and a Salvation, so I'd still be looking at giving them something like $450 for a basic Ironclad. My max is probably somewhere around $200-250 on a pretend space ship. I may be buying a C1, I'm really not sure yet. I do enjoy the ship, but historically I haven't used a C1 much after getting a C2. Honestly, once I saved enough for a C2, it was rare for me to go out in another ship until I got my 890J. It'd be nice if they ran a killer deal on the C2 next weekend when Crusader is featured, but I doubt that'll happen. |
Would've been nice to know the 4.8 update is 60GB. Had I known that, I'd have started it a while ago when I was outside doing some work around the property ![]() Eta: Now that Defensecon is rolling, it looks like the base Ironclad is now down to $525 and the Corsair is also up on warbond. Maybe they will run a decent sale on the C2 or something next weekend and I can break my own spending rule and snag it for like $300

It'd be nice if they ran a killer deal on the C2 next weekend when Crusader is featured, but I doubt that'll happen. I'm obviously all in, but how you do it is probably the smartest way to play the game, and you seem to have found your sweet spot with the C2 and how you play. That's kind of what I'm looking for, my sweet spot. I can melt all the dumb shit and have an Ironclad Assault as a mother ship, with a few smaller ships for different combat and support loops that all feed into the Assault RRR capabilities. Salvage for repair mats, bounties for missiles, weapons, and components, killing Starfarers for fuel bags (may work, may not, don't know yet), etc. Scrapping stuff I don't want or that is bricked for more fabricator mats. The only hiccup right now is needing a separate fabricator since the one onboard is inop at the moment. Your C2 once you get it can probably do this on a smaller scale if you want to do something different. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think my sweet spot is this: A Salvation and a fighter onboard for bounties. Park the Assault and deploy the Hornet to kill the bounty. Move the Assault and Salvation in to recover what you can and salvage the dead hulls. Scrap, salvage, fabricate, and sell whatever you can to replenish supplies and make money. Use the command module with it's tractor to recover cargo if available. If I can get this to work, I can avoid real money spending for a long time. The Vulture, Prospector, Fortune, and Golem will fit too for pure industrial gameplay. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I have a lot of hope for the near future, if they can keep it stable. Hopefully I can get a couple good CCUs to keep the cash spending down this ILW. ETA: I know that's a lot, but I haven't been this excited to play for a while now. |

Picked up an M80 and enjoying it so far. Looking forward to the Tiburon next week. Did some Intersec rep grinding then swapped over to doing ASD/Hyperion and Gauntlets for some easy money. ETA: I'm back in Stanton (Lorville). Was at Nyx (Levski) in 4.7 to do rock breaker but prefer Stanton for home. |

Very low drama. I was pissed about the wipe but realized I've been having a lot of fun. I had made billions selling quant to players and had purchased every ship in game. Now I'm back to cargo hauling when I get time. I picked up a Hull B off Star Hangar for $170 and I've been running that pretty heavily. I'm at Member rank now and sitting around 2.5M aeuc. Mostly I'm farming hauling because the Military Quant drives BPs are locked behind the upper tier missions for Covalex. Planning to go farm some Palatino armor and what not at some point this week. |

At $55 warbond, it's almost worth buying to just sit on for future CCU I've been buying some warbond CCU's. I did a Mercury to Warbond M80, Scorpius to Warbond M80 and then a M80 to Warbond Starlancer TAC. All of those were insanely cheap with the goal to get me up into the $380-$400 range for ships. I haven't flown my Mercury or Constellation Taurus in ages but just can't bring myself to get rid of them. I've been looking at the Starlite, that said, most things I'm reading say the refueling is buggy. With the Starlite there are some ships you can't refuel because the tanks are smaller. I did call for a refueling ship in my Polaris though because docking is broken at a lot of locations. Running Experienced Rank cargo now. I just park my Polaris under the external elevators and slam everything into the hangar.

Howdy gents, Just dropped by as I've thrown myself back into the verse just before 4.18 (about a week prior). Will try to find my way into the Discord and see what everyone is up to. Variety of ships and been forcing myself to try as many of the game loops / styles as possible. I like most of them, but am just atrocious at space combat and really not sure why. Practice and control setup/scheme is my best guess. |

I grabbed one a while ago to get the ship, but I don't think it's a good fit for me. So now I have two chains to an Ironclad Assault, and I think I'm going to go the Galaxy direction since the IC is so broken. My TAC will eventually become an Ironclad once the Galaxy releases and I get a release-price Galaxy to 600i Explorer CCU. That's the only hole in the chain. Then I can finally have my mothership for about $430 melt value I think. Industrial support ships to go inside can be bought in game, and I will have a lot of store credit to mess with new stuff without new money. But I think I'm done for a while until/unless something really cool comes out. I think the Hull B is in a really sweet spot for hauling, but that isn't really my thing. I think once I get my solo mothership idea going I'll be set for the things I enjoy. Ironclad, Liberator, whatever that looks like. I thought the Galaxy might do it, but I don't think it's big enough for me. The hangar is small, and no one really knows if the cargo bay will accomodate ships very well or at all, only speculation. I don't know if RRR is planned for it either. If I mined, the refining would be cool, but I don't think I'll ever do it on a large enough scale to be useful. Just for getting crafting mats. Either way, I have plenty to keep me occupied for a while and I'm still having fun. |

Well. The game has managed to suck me back in after a very rough 4.8 start that had me swearing off the game altogether and playing other games. Night one (the day after 4.8 released), my ship was stuck to the hangar floor and I was sharing a hangar with ghost ships. Night two I managed to get to A18 and rent an Ironclad long enough to suffocate in the cargo bay before deciding maybe No Man's Sky would be fun. I ran a few Covalex missions last night and forgot how much fun running small cargo contracts can be, even in a ship as wonderfully mediocre as the Intrepid. I'll probably rent a Hull until I have RAFT rental money, then my sights will be set on getting my C2 back. Eta: looks like the Covalex missions between August-Dunlow and Seraphim still exist for around 320k/run, so I should be back in a C2 in short order |

It's my new everything ship. It has enough pilot controlled firepower to farm Gilly's combat missions and it's ridiculously good at salvaging and cargo. Stuff like salvaging a hammerhead for weapons goes super smooth with all that external grid and the exit and tractor beams are in ideal places. I'm not usually an alien ship guy but they really nailed this one. |

I'm not usually an alien ship guy but they really nailed this one. I'll have to take a look at it. I was intrigued by the cargo grid when all the info about it first came out, it looks extremely good for quick manual load cargo runs. Honestly, originally, cargo was just supposed to be an easy solo way to make money. I've grown to genuinely enjoy being a space trucker though, to the point where I had ships like an 890j, a Carrack, a Hammerhead, etc and was still choosing to run cargo for fun. I did dick myself pretty good yesterday. I was sitting in Orison with 800k AUEC and a rented C1 with 30 minutes left of the rental, planning on running to Lorville to rent a RAFT to continue cargo contracts and do some light commodity running with. I come up with a brilliant plan to take a load of Organics with me; I'm where you can buy it and I'm going to where you can sell it, it's basically free money. I go to the TDD and spend 700k of my 800k on 64scu of Organics. Head back to my ship, and the cargo hold is empty. No Organics in my station inventory, either. Oh well, must be the invisible cargo bug. I have no choice but to send the cargo and hope it shows up at the CBD in Lorville. I get to Lorville with 2 minutes left of the rental. I store it (cargo still not showing) and get to the CBD, load up the trade terminal... And no ship. My rental had expired. I screwed myself good over what I thought was going to be a free 100k aUEC ![]() All that said, I'm going to CCU my Intrepid up to a C1 I think. I love the C1 (it was the first ship I ever bought in-game), I've got a few paints for it, and it's way more useful than the Intrepid is in the event of another wipe (and given that the last one didn't stop dupers and glitchers, I expect there to be more wipes) Eta: Chris Roberts has another sixty of my dollars and I have a slightly nicer starter package

| I don't know how you guys do it. I had five hauling contracts fail in a row, and not because of elevators. What a mess. Back to exploring and blowing shit up. |

History indicates that Conservative Americans only have three speeds: silence, peaceful protest rallies, and Total Industrialized Warfare. They excel at the latter.

| You may be right lol. For me, I saw easy money and took a shot. Oops. Thankfully it was contracted so I didn't lose actual space bucks. Still having fun though with other mission types though. |

Back to exploring and blowing shit up. I've literally used that exact explanation talking to a friend about me going back to StarCit after swearing it off "for good". StarCit hurts me because it loves me ![]() I honestly only do enough hauling contracts to get a bit of startup money for commodity trading and then use that as my primary money maker. I bought a C2 Friday, didn't play at all Saturday night (I did a few trade runs in the morning), and I was back up to ~13,000,000 aUEC by the time I went to bed last night. I also avoid autoload and auto-unload like the plague any more; 4.8 eats too many ships inside the hangars for me to trust it. Luckily, the most valuable commodities tend to be at outposts anyway. And slinging 8scu crates around with an ATLS can be pretty zen once you get into the groove of it |

Well, CIG got me again. I know it's not a particularly great miner, but the Golem fits inside a Hercules with plenty of room left on the grid for ore pods, and I've wanted a hangar-bound one for a while. They have the Golem and Golem OX pack on warbond for $130 for the pair at the moment. I figure since I was ready to buy the Golem at full price, I'm effectively spending $65 on the OX. Which means it will be my be my first CCU chain ship. Ideally, I'll end up aiming for a C2 to finish out this chain, but who knows |
