Did Worf ever prevent Captain Picard from being taken hostage?

Is it just me or is Worf the most incompetent security officers of all time. That Klingon should a mall security cop not the Chief of Security on the Enterprise. Just watching the Borg episode "Best of Both Worlds" and the Borg take Picard without issue basically.  Worf's idea of hand-to-hand combat seems to consist of walking into the bad guys and being thrown across the room.

But if the Picard didn't get taken hostage, what would have happened to the plot?

Starfleet SOP is not to defend yourself when the misunderstood flesh-eating aliens are punching giant holes in your ship.  Defending yourself might be taken as an aggressive action.

The whole Star Trek universe was pussified to make TNG politically correct.  Any redshirt from the original series could kick Worf's ass.  Kirk could kick the asses of the entire TNG bridge crew while fucking some green alien chick.  And don't even start me on Riker, what a pansy, nurse Chapel would wipe the deck with him.

Why should raising shields even be under manual control?  Seems like with a lightning fast computer it would raise the shields automatically when a threat was detected.

Also, I never understood how phasers traveling at the speed of light could miss their target nor why you'd need some dude to stand there to press a button only to fuck it up and miss when you really needed to hit.

But yeah, Worf was the worst.  I liked how they would immediately discount anything he said during meetings.

The writers had the job of showing how computers could make life better but couldn't use them to their potential, lest the Enterprise crew become mere systems monitors.

Remember when the sensors failed to track a ship as it went behind an asteroid, and when the E* went around to look for it, it was gone.  No sensor track, no sensor logs, no readings, nothing.

Wasn't there an episode where they wre in some serious shit and they gave Data complete control becuase he was the only one who could make decisions fast enough? The show would be pretty boring if they just let computers do all the work. Ironicly modern day fighter jets make more decisions on thier own when allowed then the Enterprise does.

Oh dear.

We're talking about a philosophy that led picard to refuse to lift a finger to save an entire race from extinction... and feel morally superior while doing so.

If we applied these ethics on an individual scale, it would somehow be moral to refuse to stop a murder in an alleyway simply because we don't know what that victim might have gone on to do later in life.

Speaking of the writers, they overlooked that the whole show is pretty pointless given that you have teleporters and replicators.  Picard died?  No problem, teleport in a copy that was stored in the computer.  Only one Data in the universe?  No sir, we can make billions.  Who wants a fleet of Enterprises?

Taken to the extreme, what appears more enlightened on the surface turns into something much less enlightened.
