im sitting here watching Star Wars and im wondering what kind of damage do the laser blasters do.  i mean, with a hollow point bullet you get expansion and a larger exit wound, but what about a laser?  i would think that the entrance an exit wound would be the same.  would your internals be affected in other ways besides the wound channel?

I swear im not a geek who thinks about this shit all day.

I'm not sure what the large term effects of a military type laser would be... Limbs could be severed easily and not be able to be rejoined.

The Storm Troopers Armor is weak, I think the Composite Armor from SWG is better in the game at least.

Stormtrooper armor is supposed to be extremely effective against "conventional" weapons (knives, projectile weapons such as handguns and rifles as we know them today, shrapnel, etc).  It has optics built into the helmet as well as protection from gas attacks.

At least, that's my understanding of it.

Some of those rocks looked like they weighed over 40 lbs each.  Something that heavy wouldn't have to penetrate armor to still knock a man down.  Imagine the spinal compression of the neck if one was dropped on your head.  Even smaller 10 or 20 lb. rocks are going to be a pain to deal with if they're raining down on you.

The situation with the Ewoks was more a matter of being overwhelmed by mass numbers.  No, I'm not a fan of ewoks.

They were also effective against "civilian" blasters as well.  The weapons that Han Solo had and the rebels had were illegal military grade weapons.  The armor could also survive in hard vacuum for about half an hour, and made the impervious to NBC threats.  Also you'll notice that in ROTJ the arrows and spears when thrown at the storm troopers did not damage and just bounced off.  It's when they swarmed them and pushed the spears in between the joints around the neck and shoulders that they killed them.

There are gaps between the plates of the armor.  Some sort of polymer fabric is used at the joints and neck.  While I'm sure that it provides some limited protection it wasn't a match for spear thrusts from determined ewoks...who have a strength disproportionate to their size.  Kind of like comparing the strength of a chimp to a man's strength.

I see that Enigma102083 provided the answer ahead of me.

I'd have to watch it again to be sure, but they probably stab at the joints, or other spots where the armor doesn't cover. I don't think they just stabbed right through the white plating. It's just body armor, it's not meant to be an all encompassing suit of impenetrability.

I can't get excited about much of anything that came after The Return of the Jedi.

That's because the rebels were smart and got their military grade weapons illegally on the black market. Anything Imperial Citizen Joe could buy legally would not be able to penetrate imperial armor.

The Empire was over confident in their gun control polices. That is why they failed.

Embarrassed I know this but.... No, the Wookies thanks to Chewbacka had evolved within the series to become a more technical race in this 'world'.  GL's (may he forever burn) original idea was to make a Vietnam comparison on how a Big Empire (USA) could be downed by a far less technical / advanced civilization ('nam)

blasters used tribidium (sp?) gas. so they shot plasma, not laser.

storm trooper armor was protection against fire, chemical, biological and gas attack, as well as balistic and physical protection.

as has been noted earlier.

a lot of species have claws and teeth, which the armor protected against, as well as simple ahnd weapons.

As has also been noted, the empired gun control policies failed, just as gun control always does.
