Recently gave up cigs due to some issues.  Anyways, my wife still smokes, so its sooooo tough to not grab one. I want to start using one of the dripper styles, as I read they are best tasting, etc. I just dont know enough about them to purchase. The wife bitches about what the stuff will cost. In her opinion, she thinks I might aswell spend the money on cigs, due to high prices of vaping. Being laid off 7 months dont help neither.  Most my money goes on the household bills, and kids. I just want to get something cheap as possible, and functional. I have stuff friends will give me, such as some juices, and an 18650 battery and cheap charger ( Was told I could get a "clone" cheap that uses this battery ), if I can get the vaper itself. Whats a good unit that is as cheap as possible? Being low on cash makes me very limited, so I have to shop wise. It'll have to be good enough to satisfy, as I really wouldnt be able to buy another, or "better" Til I am called back to work. Sorry for my ignorance to this stuff.

Thank you!! I appreciate it!! If possible, tell me anything else I will need. I am determined to not give into the cigs. My wife insists I can have "just one" but I dont think I could. I strongly believe I wouldnt quit at one. I already suffered too much to give in now lol. It'd be all for nothing. PM sent.

^ Seconded

OP, if saving money is your primary concern, you should definitely look into mixing your own juice. The savings over ready-made stuff can be ridiculous.

Just get the 18650 battery and charger... I put you a build on it and have it ready to rock. I'm going send you a clone mech mod for it as well. Good luck in the job search man, when things get better you can pay it forward to someone else that needs a break.

Wow! Not really sure what to say other than thanks. I wish there was a way you could actually see, or I could show how thankful I am, as letters cant express it. Again, THANK YOU.... I been at this place working for going on 8 years. My dad has been there 40ish. We get laid off a few months in the winter, always have  ( Dad said back in the day, the old owners had you back in 6 weeks maybe ) but usually back in 2 to 3 months. This past year just before layoff an angry employee who couldnt get his way, called OSHA  and they came in a few times for inspections. Needless to say, the usual rebuild and repairs of the normal layoff time is done, but they need to fix what they have been cited for too. I guess its bitter-sweet. Yep, it'll be a safer workplace, but its hard on the wallet waiting. I have began looking elsewhere though, and if I can better myself, I will surely do it.
Again, Thanks a million!! Greatly appreciated.

There is a tacked thread that deals with DIY juices.

I generally make 10ml batches to keep the math simple. A typical batch for me is 2ml nicotine base (100mg/ml PG,) 1ml of flavoring (~10%) and the balance in whatever ratio of PG/VG I want. I used a 10ml graduated cylinder when I was starting out. Nowadays, I'll just use a 3ml syringe for the nicotine and flavoring, and eyeball the PG/VG.

My typical procedure is as follows;

1. Draw nicotine into syringe, deposit into 10ml dropper bottle. RECAP NICOTINE BOTTLE.

2. Rinse syringe with ~1ml PG (this goes in the bottle too.)

3. Draw flavoring into syringe, deposit. Rinse syringe again.

4. Add glycerine until it "looks right".

5. Fill bottle to shoulder with PG.

6. Cap bottle and shake. Done!

The whole process takes maybe two minutes.

Don't worry much about that yet. Go by a local shop and try a few flavors and find something you like then go on Mt. Baker Vapor and order you some juice... Their prices will be hard to beat. And they always have a 10% coupon code going you can find in the deals thread sticky above.

You can get all the other info about building the coils from this thread-

Awesome tutorials/info!! I love learning new things.....I love tinkering, so maybe this could turn into a hobby down the road. from my understanding, building coils gives best taste. I read it can be dangerous with certain ohms. I assume a multimeter would be ok to check these? I have a cheap meter, if its good enough.

Multimeter will do just fine. Checking for shorts is the important part.
It's not gonna matter if your meter is extremely accurate on the reading.

i use a harbor freight multi meter. If you use a cheap one like that just test it by touching the two needles together to read impendance at zero.  Mine reads .4 ohms that way so when I make coils I know that 1.5 really means 1.1  .   I have a better one at work that reads zero but the cheap one works fine for this.

Thanks!! amazing how generous you people are. Cant wait to get this vaping thing going. As of now, I been reading lots of forums on it, and it seems that most enjoy it as much or more than smoking. Perhaps the wife still smoking wont tempt me as bad as it does currently. Still have a habit if I see a lighter to grab it, and reach for the cigs I always kept on the counter. I notice I still go to grab them quite a bit, especially when I see hers laying around. PM sent.

My brother lives with me and smokes like a chimney on the couch 3 feet away from me. He even has the audacity to wave his hand in front of his face to get my vapor away from him (like it's carcinogenic like his 2nd hand smoke or something...).

Anyway, I don't have any urges to smoke a real cigarette even with him sitting right next to me day-in day-out. Good luck!

LOL!! Looks like the vaping must work pretty well to keep your nerves/temper good....I think me and him would be rolling around for that lol. My wife dont do ignorant stuff, but she does smoke around me. I guess because I never asked her to not to, so its partly my fault maybe. If I catch a good whiff, it takes my breath and kinda pisses me off. After about two times of that during that cig, I tell her about it. Sometimes they still smell good though. I guess it depends on the strength of the whiff I get. I noticed tho, after being gone for awhile or in the basement, that when returning the house smells like an ashtray. I hear I will always want a cig no matter how long I have been quit. Then again, all the vapers I met so far, say they have no urge, such as you.

*EDIT*
Jagerbomber sent me the goods. Says its ready to roll, other than a battery..... I cant wait to experience this!! Thanks again to all of you!!

I know you asked me about how the mod works in the pm but I'll post here in case I miss anything the others will be able to get it straight.

The switch screws in the bottom of the mod and once tight just press to fire it. Their is a locking ring on the bottom of the tube that you can screw down that will prevent the switch from being pressed. That is the important part to remember to prevent a hot pocket situation. It's a nemesis clone by Hcigar already upgraded with the magnets in the switch (the springs are in the spare parts) so you should not have any problems. There is a kick tube, the very short 1" tube if you ever want to use a kick to regulate the power but no worrying about that now. The small beauty ring (looks like a silver wedding ring) is screwed onto the kick tube in the spare parts now... You will not need it unless you upgrade firing pins.... No need worrying about that now either. The top cap where the atomizer screws on has a firing pin screwed in the bottom. When installing an addy you-

Losing the firing pin
Screw on the addy to the top cap
Tighten the firing pin up till it is good and snug against the 510 connection on the addy
Screw the assembled top cap/addy to the tube (in 18650 mode it is the two big tube pieces put together, in 18500/18490 it's the kick ring and one long tube, & in 18350 just a single long tube)
* the IGO-w is already on the top cap & it is set up right now for a 18650. All you will have to do is drop in the battery add juice and go.

***There is NO adjustment with the bottom firing pin on the inside of the switch! Always make sure it is screwed in tight even if you have to use needle nose pliers to tighten it.***

you might find a few extra things in the box to keep you going but  as of now everything is ready to rock and roll.

Batts are fully charged, so that's one step you can skip.

On the charger.
It's a basic unit that will serve you well until you're ready for something better. When you put the battery in, the light will be red. When it turns green, the battery is charged... Simple!
The Batts i sent you are good for 20A of continuous current. So what that means, is you can go as low as .3ohms (14amps on a fresh battery) on your future builds. (Technically you can go a bit lower, but safety and all..)

VERY good peoples!!

JB.... It sounds complicated, but I figure once I see it, and do more reading, it wont be so bad.

mouse....the 20A and stuff gets me lost lol. I understand the ohm/resistance of the coils sorta. I figure the less the ohms, the quicker the batts drain. From what I read and see on vids, real low ( sub ohm....Seems to be popular ) can be dangerous. I heard of things blowing up from it. I figure something safe will keep me happy.....Atleast until I see if this takes off as a hobby, which it seems many do. I see vids on youtube of people seeing how much "smoke" they can make. As of now, I dont see the reason, but being ignorant to it, maybe I just aint to that point, and maybe I'll do the same.

Thanks again to everyone....Even the people who just chimed in. Thank you all!!

Don't worry about all that fancy stuff for now. Just know that with the build JB put on the device he sent you, the batteries i sent you will be more than safe.

You can get into the other stuff later down the road...

Somewhere in another thread i once said "Get the car running first, you can race it later." that applies here too.

Got to thinkin ( uh oh lol ) and  got wondering about something, so I figured I'd ask here. If I decide I want to switch a flavor, how hard is it to do with the rebuildable coil design. I guess I mean do I have to do a new coil,or just switch the cotton/wick ?
7/15/2014 4:58:23 PM EDT
[#35]
Remove the wick and hit the switch a few times to burn off the gunk. Wipe it clean, rewick and rejuice.

I rewick every 2 tanks or so and recoil about every 2 to 3 weeks or as needed.

Yep.... Just pull out the cotton wick and rewick the coil. As long as you don't bend/smash/upfuck the coils they will last for a good while. The coil in my everyday Kayfun is over two months old... Rewick it once a week or so and keep on trucking. One thing I do is fire the coil after removing the wick and stick it under the running facet while red hot but after letting off the button.... The steam it creates blasts off the gunk and makes it look like new money and you never have to touch it with a brush or anything.

Just want to tell everyone thanks again for everything. I been using my set up about a week or so. I must say I love it, and hate it. I love that it helps my cravings, and tastes pretty good too. I hate trying to get a simple "hit" thats not too strong. Is it normal that the position of the holes on the atty plays a role in how hard it "hits"?  Like maybe if the holes are near the coil, or not near a coil. If I turn the cap with the holes in various locations, it seems to mellow the hit, and make it a little more smooth. Been reading LOTS on this stuff, and I keep reading about kayfuns. They seem pretty easy to use, and best of all, it seems to hold a good bit of juice. Something I wouldnt have to fool with too often. Again, thanks to everyone for everything. It's greatly appreciated.

Did your remove one of the coils to try a single coil setup? The build was a .9 duel so that would have made it a 1.8ohm set up and should have been a lot more mellow. If you did go to a single coil you could put a piece of tape over one of the air holes to tighten up the draw which would also reduce the hit.

One other thing is with a dripper the higher the VG % the less throat hit and all the juice I sent you was 12mg except for the one that was 6mg and I believe in 60pg40vg or so.  Most everyone who drips uses 3mg or 6mg with the VG in the 65-80% range as a dripper will give a stronger/bigger hit than almost any tank will.

Nope, never removed one of the coils. Figured I'd grow into it LOL. Was afraid to mess something up. I did end up plugging one of the holes with tape, as you mentioned.

If it's still to hard a hit just use fingernail clippers and clip one coil off. I don't think it will be too easy to loosen the center post screw without messing up the other coil so just clip it. ain't nothing to winding new coils and I sent you enough 28ga wire to make at least 4 coils or try's at it anyway. but really nothing to it man.
