Directing this mainly at the over 40 crowd.

How many of you look what you perceive to be "your age"?
How many of you look what you think of as younger or older than "your age".
How has this affected your mindset about things.

I am 47. Thanks to my father, I look considerably older than what I perceive 47 should "look like". My wife , at 46, thanks to some good genes from HER parents, looks considerably younger than what most people think 46 should look like.

The other day I picked the wife up at work to have lunch with her, and one of her coworkers who had never seen me before thought I was her father.

My wife knows that this prematurely aged appearance thing  bugs me.
You can talk all you want about state of mind overcoming all of the above, but it doesn't...not really.

Thoughts?

Don't let it get to you.

There are options for those who think they are aging too fast (surgery, etc.), but I personally don't think very highly of people who avoid aging at all costs.

Perception is a funny thing - especially when it comes to vanity.

I'm more worried about my joints breaking down than I am about my hair falling out.

I'd rather be in good shape than look like I was in good shape.
I can shave my head and go 'G. Gordon Liddy' if I have to, (I don't have to), but when your shoulders feel like they're full of hot broken glass - one is forced to use a stick-with-a-nail-in-the-end  to put on a T-shirt.
